....the person who may hold the record for the longest stint living at work is Ben Discoe, who was based in a van parked on campus for just over 60 weeks across much of 2011 and 2012.

Mr Discoe moved into a van because he did not have enough money to rent a place near Google's campus

What's next, gay Chindian billionaires living at Mountain View Walmart parking lot?

He had been dared. Enough said.

I believe that back in the 80s and 90s, a number of Microsoft employees either brought a mattress to the office or slept in their vans.

Rin, mattress is a dual-use technology in the office. ;-)

Wrong industry, you're thinking finance, not MS.

And yeah, I saw 'Wolf of Wall St' :-)

Not enough said: there are more then one.

And yes, we know you didn't read the article beyond first 140 symbols. :-P

I worked with a guy who did this. His work was 250 miles from his home so he just bought a van and lived in it during the week, eating out and in the company break room, showering at the local gym.

It works for some people.

Apparently, the movie did not have to exaggerate much.

And his yacht did sink.

Yes, it was mostly true. And Belfort's still making money as a re-born Anthony Robbins.

Even though my firm isn't like that, some of our clients do act like that they're out of control, so the Coke stories of the Hamptons are a good fit.

Perhaps more sex in the office is good for the morale?

Believe me, it would really help relieve the madness.

I just wish that we weren't so image-conscious. That's exactly what we advertise that we're not.

It wasn't about money.

Matthew Weaver told the BBC that he had been dared to spend a year based out of a campervan parked on one of the company's lots.

He added that he had been comfortable with the lifestyle, but eventually moved out because it had become "a bit weird" to explain it to women he was dating.

With new graduates getting $120K cash and $170K-$190K total at the big tech companies paying for a $3000/month apartment isn't a problem for people without families, although I'm sure there are other cheap bastards like me (bought myself a double wide in Silicon Valley) who choose other options.

I did that at a couple of startups...but that was due to needing to work so many hours, not because of the cost of housing!!

Welcome to Matt Foley's park and snooze down by the river.

at least the campus is not in some shithole like Oakland. surrounded by dumb spics and niggers. working there would be like being in Planet of Tha Apes.
