The student is 17 years old now, but was 16 at the time the alleged crime took place. The student bragged to classmates about having sex with two teachers, which resulted in a St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation at Destrehan on Friday, Sept. 26.
The problem isn't teachers and students having sex with each other. The problem is that the students keep bragging about it.
Well, if it's only minor charges for adults with 16-year boys, gender equality says it's minor charges for MMFs with 16-year old girls.
80 years or more ago, it made sense that a man having sex with an underage girl was worse than a woman having sex with an underage boy. After all, women relied on men for income, housing, food, and survival and had to be virgins in order to get a husband and provider.
Well, this isn't the 12th to 19th centuries. None of that crap applies anymore. It's time to ditch the false notion that a 15-year-old girl is somehow more fragile or innocent than a 15-year-old boy and thus harmed by sex more (or even at all).
Hell, let's get real. The average 14-year-old girl has as much sexual experience as the average 16-year-old boy. Why? Because the 14-year-old girls are fucking the 16-year-old boys. Teenage girls and women typically choose mates that are 1 to 4 years older than they are. Yet we treat teenage girls as if they are more innocent than boys. Bullshit.
The real problem is dumb-ass parents can't deal with the fact that their children are even more sexually active than they were at the same age, and those parents were damn active when they were teenagers. But parental inability to deal with the fact that your kid is horny isn't justification to demonize and prosecute the people your kid chooses to fuck.
Yeah, real pedophiles who try to stalk 8-year-olds should be thrown in prison. But a 23-year-old and a 16-year-old? That's ridiculous. And yes, as thunderlips11 pointed out, it would be equally ridiculous if the genders were reversed. Hell, it wasn't that long ago when it was common for a 23-year-old and a 16-year-old to get married. There are still people alive today who got married at those ages.

As far as the teachers, they could have a few years at least of climbing out of this mess. The biggest matter is that they can be viewed as using bad judgment, which could impact their employment chances within the teaching community. This means they may have to find alternative means like teaching overseas (i.e., Caribbean private schools, etc.), or working full time for a tutoring and for-profit education company. Eventually, say after a couple of years, they may be able to get back into public education after redeeming themselves. I hope they do get that chance, and at worse have to find private employment for a couple of years before returning to the public schools.

Two Destrehan High School teachers have been arrested after allegedly having a threesome with a student who was 16 at the time.
English teacher Shelley Dufresne, 33, of 805 Country Cottage Blvd. in Montz, was charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Fellow English teacher Rachel Respess, 23, of Kenner, faces the same charges.
Dufresne is married with three children and has been teaching at DHS for 10 years. Respess graduated from Destrehan in 2008 and has been teaching at the school for two years.
The student is 17 years old now, but was 16 at the time the alleged crime took place. The student bragged to classmates about having sex with two teachers, which resulted in a St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation at Destrehan on Friday, Sept. 26.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the first crime took place in the early part of September in Montz.
A second incident allegedly took place in Kenner after the Destrehan versus Helen Cox football game on Friday, Sept. 12. Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser said both teachers are accused of having sex with the student in Respess' home on West Esplanade Avenue that night.
He said that Respess was the student's English teacher last year, while Dufresne taught the student English this year.
St. Charles Parish School Board member Al Suffrin said the situation is troubling.
“It gives the district a black eye. It is obviously something we don’t like to see happen because it is a distraction. It gets in the way of what our core business is.,†he said.
Suffrin said the school district has overcome such situations before, but it makes the job of all educators more difficult when such issues arise.
“Generally speaking we have enough challenges as it is. We didn’t need something like this to happen to add to the challenges we already have. It is a difficult enough task,†he said. “When something like this happens it is more than just a bump in road. We work so hard to make strides and progress and something like this is a setback.
“We’ve had other challenges we’ve faced and overcome.â€
Dufresne was first arrested for carnal knowledge of a juvenile on Tuesday in St. Charles Parish. She was released after posting bond, but was rebooked with additional charges on Wednesday in Kenner.
Both teachers have been suspended without pay, according to Stevie Crovetto, public information director for St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
