Without putting much thought into it, the last diagram also suggests that the highest income category is leaving California by percentage.
In other words, isn't a net decrease of 5868 a large percentage of households with that high an income?
In other words, "The cost of living in California is so high many higher-income people are leaving the state."
It costs too much to live in California
Macmansions of people are gaining hefty values to make up for that increase in cost.

It sure is. It's only fair the other 49 states pay a 1% sales tax to subsidize California. I mean, without California we would be a nobody.
It cost to much to live in California? That's because people want to live here. Supply and demand Bitch.
poor people aren't going anywhere - this is a crumb's paradise.
even worse: with lower oil prices there are an inordinate amount of crappy 90's vehicles suddenly prowling the freeways, getting into crashes, and making life absolutely miserable for the well-adjusted.
Let's make California cheaper so twice as many people can live here.
Judging from the clientele we already have attracted, that could only be a good thing, and the crowds would be great for the economy.
