This is a much smaller service, but my friend Dismuke in Ft. Worth who has operated his online station Radiodismuke.com for nearly 15 years lost the ability to stream music for free on live365 as of February 1 this year--it had been scheduled to go off line on January 1, which would have interrupted our 11th consecutive and tenth annual New Year's Eve broadcast from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00--thankfully it was extended for a month. To do as he wanted to do, he'd have to set up a non-profit and receive donations for the nearly $3,000 a year he calculated he'll need. He set it up and filed the necessary forms with the IRS. We had our first board meeting via conference call a month ago and I'm now on the board with four others ranging from Florida, two and maybe three in Dallas and Dismuke in Ft. Worth. When it can take 1-2 years for approval from the IRS, he received validation in two weeks. He makes an appeal once every two hours and has already received over $2,000 along with automatic deposits of $200 a month. It operates under the name Early 1900's Music Preservation. The station plays the original 78 recordings, digitally cleaned up when necessary, from 1925 to 1935, both popular music and jazz and can play for a week 24/7 without repeating. He's adding recordings all the time, many from our friend in Florida and some from my collection of 57 years. A music critic in the UK called it one of the best internet radio stations available and a couple of European cafes use it for background music. Radiodismuke.com, also happymusicradio.com.
