From your linked piece:

Since the beginning of Trump’s presidential run, it has been extremely difficult to find pro Donald Trump news and updates.

Did you ever consider the possibility that there isn't really a legitimate logical pro Trump case that can be made ?

Unless it's one of those arguments like this: "hey, either he is amazing and shakes things up for the better, or the country crashes and burns, but we've been kind of needing a reboot anyway, I mean, he is an expert in taking entities in to bankruptcy right ?"

I don't hate MSM. I hate the ignorant that believe them.

8   marcus   2016 Jun 9, 8:25pm

Yes, becasue it's impossible that the Tampa Bay times could have an editorial board that's independent of their fact checking operation.

I see you right wingers are still going to great lengths to show that facts somehow have a liberal bias.

Btw, backing Hillary Clinton when the choice is Donald Trump is about as radical as being anti Terrorism or pro clean water (I was going to use global warming and sustainable energy but I forgot, that's still highly debatable to you guys).

The worst example is how they seem to cover BLM. They have just looked the other way at egregious hate speech. Free passes for BLM; the rack for anyone who has a problem with that.

13   turtledove   2016 Jul 20, 8:09am

Or, it's okay when some people running for President lie to Congress... That barely registers... That's not even news, really... But Trump's wife may have plagiarized parts of others' speeches... (because we all know how unique these ideas are) but that gets top billing... We're talking a major news story plastered everywhere.

I'm not one of those who goes around saying that Hillary should be in jail for poor judgment and idiocy (okay I've joked, but I've never seriously said/thought it). But why did she have to lie to Congress? The clearly lying under oath thing... no biggie. Let's make her President of the United States. Unlike her husband, who also lied under oath... at least I get why he lied. Most people would have lied in the same situation....

Why didn't she just come clean right away? I think more people would have respected her if she had just said, "I screwed up. I sent classified email over my private server. I didn't realize I was doing anything wrong. The State Department IT people didn't warn me against it... I'm not an IT person. I just didn't know. I never hid the fact that I used this server for State Department emails. Please know I would never intentionally have risked US national security. If my idiocy had resulted in endangering anyone, I will live with that guilt for the rest of my life. I am truly sorry."

And she should have just handed it all over and risked the release of her personal emails even if they might have been embarrassing. At least that would be iron clad proof that she had nothing to hide. Her choice to delete emails to protect her privacy when she chose to mix personal and "business" emails accomplished nothing but shroud her in suspicion.

Had she handled it honestly right off the bat... I think that would have been the end of it. At least it would have shown that she has the balls to face her actions head on.... that she owns her actions. Had she not had the press on her side, this could have been much worse for her. She is lucky to have their support.

I think had she just answered the questions in the first place straight away with then Eric Holder(The same fix would have been in). It would have looked more organically Kosher.
But the way she scoffed and balked at the law, with impunity and finally on agreed to answer questions when her polls tanked. That is why she is losing and will go back to Arkansas when this is over unemployed and forgotten. Had she just shown one iota of respect for the office and the country, she would be leading Trump with double digits today.

Instead she was focused from last summer to early spring driving around the country in media blackout secrecy rigging the primaries by corrupting all of the super delegates to vote for her regardless what the polls say.

And that's the way it is...

24   Patrick   2016 Aug 9, 12:06pm

@marcus You're arguing on the wrong level.

Trump is mainly a reaction to the systematic destruction of the white working class by outsourcing all their jobs to China to benefit the elite.

That's the reality Trump voters care about.

And this is closely tied in with government, schools, NPR, and the NY Times' using inculcated guilt and shame to control poor whites and get them to accept policies which harm them, telling them they are racist when they simply want to avoid crime, telling them they killed the Indians when it was really 95% smallpox, telling them that they are bigoted when they point out that almost all terrorism is committed by very devout Muslims explicitly in the name of Islam, and telling them that it is somehow wrong to have a strong border when borders are central to defining what a country is.

Trump's personal qualities are not as important to his voters as the feeling that he is actually on their side.

I get it Patrick, but you surprise me. I've never seen so much bullshit crammed into one paragraph in my life.

How many of the right wing retards on this site are actually you ?

I'll try to take on your absurdity point by point.

1) "And this is closely tied in with government, schools, NPR, and the NY Times' using inculcated guilt and shame to control poor whites a"

My perspective on what I think you might be referring to with this kind of empty assertion: , all workers, not just white workers are getting hosed by globalization. But globalization doesn't mean that irrational hate is justified, and sure, rational voices are going to tell you that your hate is misplaced and that it's not the fault of mexican workers that your labor isn't worth more.

I don't want you to feel ashamed of your misdirected blame, unless you can understand that it's irrational.

2) to control poor whites

I don't know how to even address this. You'll have to explain how pointing out the stupidity of a point of view is controlling people.

3) get them to accept policies which harm them, telling them they are racist when they simply want to avoid crime

Which policies ? Continuing the great policies we have always practiced ? Look, I think you're wrong and have no sense of risk or proportion with your views on Muslims. You are in fact a bigot. You need to feel that that's okay, and that it's my fault for taking issue with it, and for believing that American greatness requires rejecting bgotry.

We're just on opposite sides of this issue. You assume your prejudice and bigotry is justified. I reject that as wrong and the antithesis of what America is about.

4) telling them they killed the Indians when it was really 95% smallpox

I don't know what percentge was smallpox. I do know about the Cherokees Nation and the trail of tears, but forget the details. Just in the abstract, more advanced cultures from Europe moved into the country displacing the native AMericans in a way that sometimes included violence. It was ugly. We did not merge with them the way the Spanish Catholics did in Mexico. (although I'm sure it's far less simple than just a protestant versus Catholic issue). We Americans were extremely racist about the inferior savages that previously possessed the land, making it easier to do what we did.

I think it's very understandable what happened, with "white people" taking over this entire country, and I don't have a problem with it. But I also think it makes sense to feel a little guilt about what happened to the native Americans.

I can't comprehend why republicans have such difficulty with this. Things aren't always black and white. There was a dark side to it. Just like there is a dark side to so many things in nature. We humans (some of us) are able to reflect on that. What's the big deal ?

5) telling them that they are bigoted when they point out that almost all terrorism is committed by very devout Muslims explicitly in the name of Islam

It's a brilliant observation, and contrary to what you have repeated dozens of times, this was never in question. It is also true that the vast majority of American Muslims are somewhat secular with regard to beliefs about how to treat others, and do not buy into the extreme Islamist view.

The question is what works best ? The fact that banning Muslims would cause less future terrorism in this country, it still may not be the best for the world or even for this country, given the huge number of Muslims in this world and considering huge questions about how they evolve in coming decades and centuries.

Sure debate this question, but a demagogue who provably lies 70% of the time and would say anything to get votes is not the answer.

6) that it is somehow wrong to have a strong border when borders are central to defining what a country is.

Nobody says that ! OBama has strengthened borders and decreased immigration a lot. And he has als deported a lot compared to previous Presidents. MEanwhile net immigration is actually going the other way with Mexico, or was recently. THere is no net inflow of undocumented Mexicans over the border, and yet this wall nonsense gets traction.

Is it schools, NY Times and NPR that are at fault for that ? How can we explain the degree to which right wingers use outright lies knowingly to justify their bizarre hate and fear ?

27   marcus   2016 Aug 10, 8:15pm

rando says

1) I question whether systemic destruction of the working class was the intention.

2) WE all benefit from cheap products manufactured in china.

Look, I don't know, maybe that line in that cohen song is right:

"Everybody knows that the war is over. Everybody knows the good guys lost"

But capitalism won out. We said the whole world can play and that it would work. It's one of the things we have fought for. The evolution of humanity is going to require us accepting some degree of balancing with the standard of living improving in the developing world, and probably everyone learning how to live with a "smaller footprint" as they say.

That is, if we are going to share the world with 10 billion other people.

I am concerned about how the workers in this country do going forward. Automation may be a far bigger issue relative to the displacement of workers than globalization has been, and it's an issue that's in the future not one that is in the past.

28   marcus   2016 Aug 10, 8:24pm

rando says

Trump's personal qualities are not as important to his voters as the feeling that he is actually on their side.

I don't believe this. How could any worker be so stupid as to imagine that Trump is on their side ? Arguably he would take cronyism to an unprecedented level, and cares about the workers about as much as he cares about students at Trump U, or about as much as he cares about workers displaced by his foreign manufacturing.

Trump voters just want to kill themselves and take the rest of us with them. They like Trump becasue of how much it terrifies all the educated thinking types and becasue it will destroy us on so many fronts.

It's the notion, "If I'm fucked, I say let us all be fucked. Then you all will see how it feels. "

I reckon that's the new American ethos.

@patrick. Wow talk about orwellian double speak. The biggest threat to poor whites is the far right wing conservative movement of and by the .1%. They brainwash the poor and working class whites with religion that the elite don't even believe in, fear of non existent gun control, and xenophobia against immigrants (who are actually critically important to lining the .1%'s pockets every single day at the expense of US workers wages) to get votes. After garnering support with massive carefully calculated deception and fear the elite then outsource all the decent jobs or use cheap immigrants to make ever more money. Someone recently correctly said the pie is growing but the 1% keep taking all the extra pieces. Starting with Reagan (the right wing god) right wing media brainwashing has been a far greater cause of poor and working whites accepting policies that harm them than anything in the liberal media. The .1% is laughing all the way to the bank that they have whole armies of fanatics working against their own self interest.

Trump is interesting because he actually talks about it. No one in the Democratic party will say anything against globalization and loss of US jobs? Why not?

@patrick What elite runs the major corporations making the decisions to outsource? Parties don't outsource anything, corporations do.

Maybe you should look at voting records on free trade. There have been 11 free trade agreement votes since 2001. Republicans have voted over 90% in favor. Democrats voted less than 36%. I'm pretty sure any reasonable person (something sorely lacking on patnet) would find 36% is not as much or more than 90%.

It is only in this election cycle there has been any Republican mention of opposition to free trade and that is pretty much because Obama is in favor of TPP. If Obama proposed tripling the military budget and eliminating taxes altogether for the wealthy I'm sure the republicans would be against it just because the only ideology the republican party has any more is to oppose anything obama suggests. http://nationalinterest.org/feature/confused-coalitions-republicans-democrats-free-trade-14257

Never been part of the "flock", use the label on someone else. CNN has always been biased but it is reaching entirely new levels now.

It's important to stand up for ones core principles instead of contributing to the sports team mentality. This country is so divided it is paralyzing. Fox always did what they were doing, with a clear Republican bias, but that has not increased, probably rather decreased a bit since Trump entered the race. CNN and most of the leftist mainstream media however have gone completely off the rails. This brainwashing is a slap in the face of Americans looking for work as well as for all those who stood in line and immigrated legally waiting in line and for their quota to be available, easily spending $50K in the process while paying into SS while on Visa status without getting any SS/UE benefits.

Figurehead status notwithstanding...

I think this is the point. Perhaps the old Dems could be trusted to look out for the 'middle class'. I'm not sure that's the case anymore. Obama being a prime example. He has some troubling numbers on immigration, privacy, 6th amendment, spying, hacking to name a few.

Try look at it from an 'idyllic' African American point of view... What better combination of factors (party and president) could you get for your voice to be heard, clean drinking water, inner city regeneration, revitalization in minority education, etc...

Answer: A black Dem president. YET. I think the African Americans in the US have fared WORSE in the past 8 years than at any other time. And when I say worse... they've fallen behind at a faster rate than the rest of the population and races. (I'm aware these are state issues, but it doesn't seem he's made much of an effort anyway.) 8 years and nothing. Come on!

How is that possible? My belief is the entire political landscape has shifted to the right so significantly that Trump can't find footing and has fallen off the map, there is very little room right of Hillary. She is on the right of a lot of troubling issues (not all I grant you), but she's held some pretty righty ideas in the past. Gay marriage, Goldwater girl, "super predator", TPP, minimum wage.

What's important to me is comparing what candidates say vs what they do. eg: Here's what Hillary said in September 2015
“We have to end the flood of secret, unaccountable money that is distorting our elections, corrupting our political system, and drowning out the voices of too many everyday Americans,” Mrs. Clinton said in a statement. “Our democracy should be about expanding the franchise, not charging an entrance fee. It starts with overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, and continues with structural reform to our campaign finance system so there’s real sunshine and increased participation.”

I think, if you're being honest with yourself, you can see she understands all too well how to manipulate money for favors AND there is no better way to describe what happened to Bernie and his supporters than "...corrupting our political system, and drowning out the voices..." If you were to assemble a task force to lead the way against what she's railing on about... SHE'D BE THE LAST PERSON YOU'D CHOOSE!

So my feeling is she says one thing, all the while doing something different. I find that REALLY troubling. So she won't get my vote. Neither will Trump, unfortunately, because he doesn't deserve it. Trump is a buffoon, but Hillary is really, really dangerous.
