Support peaked five years ago •  The country remains divided on which energy sources the U.S. should emphasize A slim majority of Americans (51 percent) now favor the use of nuclear energy for electricity in the U.S., while 43 percent oppose it, according to a new poll by Gallup Inc.

I'm all for nuclear energy, if the plants carry 100% liability insurance. If nukes are so safe, how come Private Insurance companies won't insure anything but the physical plant itself? Insurance Companies don't like free money by charging high premiums against a risk that's incredibly remote due to "High Safety"?

Nuclear is totally cost-effective, as long as the taxpayers cover the cost of decommissioning and waste disposal.
