I have covered the relationship between humans and our natural environment since 1985, when I discovered my college was discarding radioactive waste in the dumpster. That story ran in the Arizona Republic, and I have worked the energy-and-environment beat ever sincefor dailies in Arizona and California, for alternative weeklies including New Times and Newcity, for online innovators such as True/Slant, The Weather Channel's Forecast Earth project, and The New York Times Company's LifeWire syndicate. I've wandered far afieldto cover the counterrevolutionary war in Nicaragua, the World Series Earthquake in San Francisco, the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. For the...

Thank You for posting.
God bless Tesla
God bless Elon Musk

I nominate Elon Musk for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Each battery is one circuit in your breaker box. They drain quickly with a large load.
You would need six of them to power your whole house, and you don't have large enough footprint on your property to erect the solar panels that would be required to charge a whole array of batteries running six circuits. But yes they do look sexy.

yup, especially for the southern tier of the country.

is an important chart to study.

There's a nasty peak spike right at 9PM when the sun is gone but during the day we had 12GW of spare capacity today with solar peaking at 6GW.

And conservatives said PV wasn't any good, LOL.

Looking forward to going totally off the grid later this decade. Hopefully in California, sigh.

That scumbag terrorist. The Peace Prize is all political. Even Obama was shocked at receiving it. Elon Musk should get it.

OK, what happens when it's cloudy for a week?

These batteries are really mostly useful for utility peak shaving. I.E. - charging overnight when electric usage is typically lower and discharging during the day when loads are higher. You could run a business off it if the batteries or other energy storage medium were cheap enough and the electric rate differential is high enough. It could prevent the building of say a peaking power plant. More then likely if implemented you would still need more generating capacity, you would just turn your peaking plants into base load plants, until you really needed a new power plant.
