I am inclined to support Senator. Sanders proposal but I would like to know how the actual COST of higher education in Europe compares to the actual COST of higher education here? Are we paying more than actually necessary for the same higher education here than other first world countries provide for less, lIke we do for health care?

By the way, if you can make the college free, why not providing kids with free breakfast, lunch and dinner every single day? You don't know how many kids are starving even in a place like Silicon Valley where the annual average salary for the high tech worker is approaching $200k? Well, in regard to the education? These kids at 6th grade, they don't even know multiplication. The teachers don't care and don't assign homework. The school can't supply the textbooks. It is quite sickening. But we don't care. We care more about giving tax benefits to the rich, so we can be disillusioned to think that these money will trickle down to us.

Just out of curiosity, have you guys heard of hoarding and disappearing middle class in the last few years? Probably not.

"Free college" aka college funded by taxes can only work if students know what they are going to study, the classes will be focused to support their vision and the boosters/student body will learn to live without stadiums that resemble pro franchises and without buildings that resemble fortune 500 corporate campuses. Most importantly, you can't have a situation where students spend at least half of their career "finding themselves" or being forced to take general requirements that have nothing to do with their major.

coursera.org already exists. All one needs to do is have its certificates collated and canonized into some bachelors of arts in X, Y, or Z.

Do it the British way. 3-year degrees, few if any electives. You "read" the subject and that's pretty much it. JHS and HS are for experimentation and being exposed to various disciplines. If you don't have at least some kind of idea of what you want to study, you don't belong in college.

In Maryland you have a whole week to vote.

We already have more college graduates then jobs for college graduates. if anything, college should be much more expensive.

The problem is that many kids should be doing this, instead of wasting time with this retarded college admissions game. Seriously, if I had this stuff as a kid, I would have gotten a college degree by the time of my HS graduation, if not more.
