MAPLEWOOD — Halloween should be celebrated at home, not at school.

That was the message one New Jersey elementary school sent to parents last week as a reminder that students will not be having Halloween parties at school. In a letter home to parents on Oct. 12, Seth Boyden Elementary School Principal Mark Quiles, and PTA Co-Presidents Amelia Riekenberg and Donna Upton, said the school's diversity prompted the Halloween celebration decision.

"One of the strengths of Seth Boyden is that we are such a diverse community, with many cultures represented, and that we truly value each one," they wrote in the note.

"In the past, in-school celebrations of Halloween have made many of our students feel left out... (and as) a result, after careful consultation and deliberation, we have decided not to hold in-school Halloween activities."

According to the letter, about 20 percent of the school's student body did not participate in last year's celebrations, either while they were at school or by choosing to stay home on Halloween.

According to Suzanne Turner, spokeswoman for the South Orange-Maplewood School District, the policy will not extend to other schools in the district, or to other holiday celebrations at Seth Boyden. There had been no plans to celebrate Halloween at the school this year, the note was just sent home "to avoid confusion," she said.

It comes after a lively debate developed in the community last year when Halloween celebrations at the school were canceled and then reinstated in the days leading up to the holiday.

Superintendent John J. Ramos Sr. issued a statement Monday saying he respected the decision the school made, given the large number of students who have opted out of Halloween celebrations in the past.

"We understand that many families really enjoy the Halloween tradition and of course are not suggesting that anyone cancel or change how they celebrate Halloween outside of school," he said.

Of course there was no diversity when the schools were populated by immigrants from Italy, Poland, Germany, etc.

Or hand holding non-English forms and instruction. Polish kids learned English by going to English-only Public School.

I am certainly no expert on Sweden, but this blogger's views of libtard Swedes can explain the same ridiculous behavior of libs in the USA which I do believe stems from self loathing.

I would give the kids a day off, throw a block party by invite only. And have one hell of a freedom hodown.

I'd even make sure that certain people knew they weren't invited.

I liked the part in the video with the person saying Sweden has no culture of its own.

Really? Ever been to an IKEA?

Maybe this has something to do with it:

50% of the weapons are SAABs so 90% of will break down just after the warranty expires.

haha, I love it. As a teacher in NJ, I annually have gotten a letter drafted by the state explaining to what degree you are able to mention Christmas in your classroom. Now apparently, we have to worry about offending kids who's religion is vodoo.

This is just horrible.

Diversity does not, and should not mean deposing of American traditions and holidays. Yet this is a fine example of liberal administrators who hate America doing everything they can to destroy it's culture, traditions and principles.

I would throw a block party and hire the 4th of July Teabagger rocker that was arrested for playing star spangled banner in the street on "INDEPENDENCE DAY".
Not only that I would pay every parent of that school $1,000 for pulling their kid out of school that day and coming to the block party and having a good old fashioned American blast for Halloween.
Then I would have Trump there to work the crowd and drive home how screwed they are, voting for those Liberal losers.
Then I'd wrap the day up with a Beck's truck with beer taps on the side. and Trump Chopper rides, with Ted Nugent playing a stage made out of discarded Hope and Change posters.

Maplewood is definitely an NPR, Subaru Outback kind of place,” said Dan Calabro, an internal recruiter for JPMorgan Chase, who moved to Maplewood from Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan with his wife, Christine, and their newborn son in December.

The 2010 census figures bear that out, tallying Maplewood’s 23,867 residents as 56 percent white, 35 percent black, 7 percent Hispanic and 3 percent Asian. Given those demographics, I'm surprised to see that they would have a problem with halloween or christmas.

Hmm....I don't notice such problems in Plainsboro, West Windsor, Edison or Parsippany.

Maplewood is "diverse" like Brooklyn. Only 3% Asians and 7% hispanics, the rest are White and Black
