I think a union should buy the building when $500 "buyer" Nicholas Casab fails to pay the $232k tax bill. The union could turn it into the worldwide union conspiracy headquarters. A good name for the place would be Sander's Castle.

I knew someone who actually bought a pacer new. Reliability left a great deal to be desired. My friend became a toyota owner for life after his amc experience. Too bad really, other than being ugly the pacer had a number of advanced for the time features. Really good aerodynamics (for the 70's), great crash protection, outstanding visibility, rack and pinion steering, wheels pushed out to the corners. The car was designed around a gm rotary engine but gm backed out of producing it. So a regular engine was stuffed in and the pacer ended up being over weight and under powered. The wide body was not an innovation, it was because amc couldn't afford new tooling and reworking the assembly line for a narrower more compact body.
Javelins, especially the trans-am inspired amx, were cool looking cars that had a good reputation. The problem was they were mid 15 second cars competing for sales with cars running in the high 13's. The 390/401 were rated at 325hp and probably made that much. Big block fords and chevies were rated at 325hp but pushing 400hp easy to play games with NHRA class brackets.
And now their bankrupt.
This does not bode well for googles 51 flavors of sexual deviancy.

DETROIT -- A Michigan man had the winning $500 bid this week for the former American Motors headquarters in Detroit that sold for $2 million just five years ago.
Nicholas Casab of was the vacant complex's sole bidder in the Wayne County tax foreclosure auction.
Once Casab pays the $232,000 summer taxes bill for the old American Motors site, the auction sale can be finalized, said Eric Sabree, a deputy Wayne County treasurer. More than $2 million in unpaid taxes belonging to a previous owner were extinguished in the auction, so only the $232,000 is due.
"We are going to know in a couple days whether he's really going to buy it or not," Sabree said Thursday. "If not, (the property) will be offered to the city. And if they object, we can transfer it to the land bank, but the land bank many not want this."
The Plymouth Road building and its distinctive brick tower date to 1927 and once housed the manufacturer of Kelvinator refrigerators. The Nash-Kelvinator merged in 1954 with the Hudson Motor to form American Motors, which used the massive 1.4 million-square-feet complex as its headquarters and made Jeeps there.
After Chrysler acquired AMC in 1987, the property became the engineering center for all Chrysler and Jeep trucks and SUVs and was called the automaker's Plymouth Road Office Complex.
Chrysler kept about 900 employees in the building as late as 2009 before shifting the work to its Auburn Hills headquarters.
Following Chrysler's bankruptcy, the building and nearby parking lots were sold for $2 million in 2010 to a corporate entity called Plymouth Road One. That corporation is listed under the name of Terry Williams, a Detroit scrapper hauler.
In 2013, Williams told the Detroit News that he was working to turn the building into a home for autistic children.
But one year later, Williams, 50, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years, three months in prison for violating the Clean Air Act for disturbing materials containing asbestos, the Associated Press reported.
The county foreclosed on the property due to the unpaid taxes owed by Plymouth Road One.
