Dem Party Platform Calls For Prosecuting Global Warming Skeptics

Democratic operatives responsible for creating their party’s platform this year have unanimously adopted a provision calling for the Department of Justice to investigate companies who disagree with Democrats on global warming science.

A panel of Democrats voted Friday to approve a final draft of the party’s platform to promote “Progressive Democratic Values,” which apparently includes investigating energy companies who “misled” shareholders about global warming.

“Another joint proposal calling on the Department of Justice to investigate alleged corporate fraud on the part of fossil fuel companies who have reportedly misled shareholders and the public on the scientific reality of climate change was also adopted by unanimous consent,” according to the Democratic National Convention’s website.

The drafting committee, led by DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, has decided to back ongoing investigations by mostly Democratic state attorneys general into ExxonMobil’s stance on global warming.

Currently, AGs from California, Massachusetts, New York and the U.S. Virgin Islands have launched investigations of Exxon, and at least two AGs have demanded records on conservative think tanks and scientists skeptical of global warming. Such targeting has only fueled calls that these investigations are an attack on free speech.

New York AG Eric Schneiderman was the first to launch an investigation into Exxon, based on reporting from eco-left wing reporters at InsideClimate News and Columbia University. Schneiderman hosted a conference in March with other AGs to announce more investigations into Exxon.

Republican lawmakers and AGs have pushed back, calling the investigations into Exxon and think tanks an assault on free speech.

Some Republican AGs recently warned their liberal counterparts that if skeptics can be investigated for misrepresenting global warming, alarmists can be as well.

“If it is possible to minimize the risks of climate change, then the same goes for exaggeration,” Republican AGs wrote. “If minimization is fraud, exaggeration is fraud.”

Democrats have largely scoffed at free speech arguments, saying Exxon and others were committing fraud by disagreeing with the Obama administration.

What a load of crap. Nobody is committing fraud by disagreeing with the Obama administration. They are committing fraud by purposely and clearly lying in order to increase revenues. That's always been a crime.

And let's be clear--there is now and always have been restrictions to free speech. It's a crime to yell "Fire" in a crowded movie theater. It's a crime to tell people you are investing their money in a mutual fund when you are actually using it to furnish a lavish lifestyle. This is not new.

The Great Socialist Paradise has spoken, and apostates will be hung, drawn and quartered.

With corporate shakedowns like this, who needs Communism and the Russian Mob?

OP headline does not follow from facts. Democrats at the state level are investigating whether certain companies illegally defrauded investors and customers, and the platform committee proposes the DoJ should also investigate. At least according to the article, they have not proposed changing the definition of fraud, which has always been a crime. There have always been many examples where speech can amount to a crime, including fraud and robbery. If you want to claim that "free speech" should prevail over criminal law, then you would legalize almost every fraud and most robberies ("money or your life" are only words, after all).

Don't waste your time on oxymoronic "movement conservative" sites designed to mislead you. If you can't find at least one flaw with each major party, and at least one good thing about each, then you're lost in partisanship. Words and intent have always been elements of many crimes, including fraud. Nobody can seriously contend that intentionally using words to defraud someone is protected as "free speech", or that prohibiting intentional fraud is a "thought crime." I have seen people try to argue that, but falling for it requires a binary mentality where anything that involves thought must be a "thought cirme" and everything that involves speech must be a "speech crime." To anyone else, everywhere and at all times, it's an absurd position.

Incorrect. Differing opinions are one thing. A cigarette company running a campaign of "smoking is actually good for you, and will give you a longer healthier life" today is a bit different.

And a coal company, lying about something that is a danger to every one of us, is more like my example, than genuine free speech.

At least back then Congress hadn't yet arrogated to itself the power to require that everyone must buy whatever the lobbyists were selling, as part of a "shared responsibility" to submit to whatever their corporate sponsors wanted.

They already have. If you force a SJW to shut up or shut them down, you better believe you would be in jail in a heart beat.
But if they don't like what you say, and you continue to keeps saying it. I'm afraid we're going to have to arrest you.

This is what I fucking LOVE about Obama. He's set the Liberals up good for a very well deserved "Fuck You!" very much.

More Demicrat sensership:

This week, in what looks to be a burgeoning trend among Koch-GOP states, Wisconsin Republicans banned state employees from ever discussing climate change and strictly forbid any state employee from doing any research related to the effects of climate change or attempting to find solutions to the increasing problems that climate change is bringing to Wisconsin. It is the next logical approach for the Koch-backed Republicans who have discovered that just denying climate change is real is not convincing pragmatic individuals that the real effects they are seeing and experiencing are not happening because the Koch brothers say they are not real.

On Tuesday, the Republican dominated state land board voted to forbid any staff “from engaging in global warming discussions or climate change work.”

More lies from the lying liars.

What have they got to back this lie ? Some misleading and vague statement. I looked for details and couldn't find them to elaborate on what this even means.

A panel of Democrats voted Friday to approve a final draft of the party’s platform to promote “Progressive Democratic Values,” which apparently includes investigating energy companies who “misled” shareholders about global warming.

The other one is something that has only been looked in to (or not). Apparently some people have talked about Using RICO laws the same way they were used against tobacco companies for committing fraud. It's just been discussed.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/senator-use-rico-laws-to-prosecute-global-warming-skeptics/article/963007

It's whacky. But then, when will it be a fact ? When 99% of climate scientists, the Pentagon and NASA all say it's a fact and it's a risk to our future, when do we have the fossil fuel industry's permission to believe it ? And to base public policy on it ? This is actually a legit question, and the answer may vastly affect the quality of future life on this planet. It's kind of a big deal. The Pentagon says it's a serious national security issue.

A one minute Obama video (don't watch it dimbulbs - keep the hate alive !)

More fun fiction from Messrs. zzyzzx and Blurtman. Facts are the enemy of entertainment. Carry on gentlemen. Fraud, on the other hand, is nothing to trifle with; it will make America great again. Failing that, there's always bankruptcy. Now if we only had someone deeply steeped in both to lead us into a bright shinning future.

No you're thinking of conservatives whether they be Democrats or Republicans. H.R. 2978 (101st): Flag Protection Act of 1989. Conservatives have no right to bitch and moan about free speech when they support and sponsor tyrannical legislation like the Flag Protection Act, which basically takes a huge shit on the Constitution. People where actually prosecuted under this law. This isn't an imaginary scenario like conservatives are always fantasizing about to justify their beliefs. This shit actually happened.
