“Director Comey said my answers were truthful, and what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people, that there were decisions discussed and made to classify retroactively certain of the emails.”
—Hillary Clinton, interview on “Fox News Sunday,” July 31, 2016

Clinton made these remarks after “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace played a video of her saying: “I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email. There is no classified materials. I am confident that I never sent nor received any information that was classified at the time. I had not sent classified material nor received anything marked classified.”

As Wallace put it, “After a long investigation, FBI Director James Comey said none of those things that you told the American public were true.”

After Clinton denied that, Wallace played another video of an exchange between Comey and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), chair of the House Select Committee on Benghazi:

GOWDY: Secretary Clinton said there was nothing marked classified on her emails either sent or received. Was that true?
COMEY: That’s not true.
GOWDY: Secretary Clinton said, “I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email. There is no classified material.” Was that true?
COMEY: There was classified material emailed.

So what’s going on here?

So.... still not going to come clean... We're doubling down, instead.

She had the right Idea doing interview on TV to address some of these issues. It was ballsy to pick Fox. It was stupid to be so evasive on the emails and mischaracterize what Comey said. It just makes her look more dishonest.

Seriously though... Who is her PR genius? One of the things that also bothers me about this is that she holds the population in such low regard that she doesn't think we'd understand the truth. I think she'd be surprised at how smart many of us are.

That's probably true. She unfortunately cannot talk about any of the details without discussing classified things. But she could explain that she felt the everybody acted in good faith, but a few times showed very bad judgement yada yada. It wasn't clear to me if she sent or received most of these emails. IMO, sending would be much worse than receiving. Comey is a life long republican. It doesn't strike me that he has much of a motive to sand bag the whole thing.

On the other side, Trump doesn't respect you enough to show you his tax forms or discuss any plans in any detail. He hasn't said how trade deals favor corporations instead of individuals or how he would change that. He hasn't shown us how little he has paid in taxes and given to charity. He just says 'believe me.' Why would anyone do that? Don't they have any self respect?

Agreed. Something is going on there. I haven't figured out if he's embarrassed to show that he isn't as rich as he is purported to be.... or he is perhaps hiding the fact that he isn't very generous...

As for the detailed plans... That's hard to say, why... He might not have any details (kind of scary) or he might just not want to give the other side time to pick the plans apart.

I think he's planning on winging it. There is no evidence that he had spent enough time talking with experts to vet a plan and he hasn't given the impression that he is knowledgeable about any particular issue. He probably knows whatever he learned while importing textiles. He's literally selling his 'good instincts.'
