This is kinda cool, the formerly classified letter from Nixon to Thieu summarizing what concessions the US wrung out of the N Vietnamese after the Christmas bombings.

(See pages 2 & 3 for the list)

Contrary to right wing propaganda, all that killing and death didn't move the needle much.

CIC's new thing is making custom accounts to comment to people that have him on ignore. THe one for me, is "cluelessmarcus." ALthough he hasn't gone to crazy with it, so I haven't even put it on ignore yet. Whereas with this he obviously expects an immediate ignore.

So, welcome to being a member of the altusername CIC club.

basically the right wing has a catechism that Nixon let the USAF really pound Hanoi in December 1972 and that got the commies to knuckle under to us in short order.

The truth was Nixon wanted out before his second term started and he was leaving the Saigon regime out to dry, as this was simply an armistice to get US out of South Vietnam, not the North Vietnamese, which owned a lot of South Vietnam in '73 and were staying while we left.

This particular document lists *exactly* what new concessions the "Christmas Bombing" got from the North Vietnamese.

Not a damn thing, really.

What's also funny about this is that the Hanoi missile defense was taking a big toll on our bombers, and our bomber crew morale was starting to break.

North Vietnamese were running out of missiles, too, but they could get more from China.

What sad desperation for attention. I pity him. He must be miserable to still even be here on Pnet.

Pretty amazing to see this in this light. Looks it would have taken a lot more might from our side to move the needle. Wow.
