Walmart out retailed sears just like Sears did to Montgomery Wards just like Amazon is doing to Walmart.

Creative destruction, notice the winner in this is the consumer, the COMPLETE opposite of government,

Well the Sears (we haven't had a KMart in decades) in Richland Mall in Waco skated by again, but it's just a matter of time. The mall is anchored by Sears and Penneys with a Dillards in the middle. Opened in 1984, it doesn't have a single book store where it used to have two, the main drag is populated with Indian kiosks hawking cell phones and massages, doesn't have video surveillance of the parking lots, so if Sears does close that will be the beginning of its end.

Box retailers are on the way out.

They all have the same limited brands and selections, there's nothing you can't get at one store that you can't get at the other, and even cheaper on line.

Small business stores with exclusive brands will pop up. Small shops that sell made in the USA brands. Made by companies that sell truckloads at a time to these stores. Rather than selling them one at a time on line.

Yes that is how it works. It is all about how to do something better or cheaper or both.

The pejorative is a race to the bottom, the reality is a raising of the standard of living for their customers.

Hmm when will this hit the landlords?

I'm not inclined to think that these closing stores will be missed.

Love Sears. Dopes get suckered into buying bottom of the barrel Chinese goods that will last 6 months if you're lucky.

For a few bucks more they can get a quality product from Sears that will last for years.

Not infrequently, Walmart is more expensive, and you have to check the serial number carefully. If you buy something with "W" appended to the model number, you're almost certainly getting a gimped version of that product.

Finally, shopping from Walmart expands the Food Stamp and Medicaid budget.

About 4 years ago I had stopped in at Sears to see what was new with Craftsman. They started making the tools in China and the whole line turned to crap. Today, I wouldn't consider buying them, they went downhill, just like everything else made in China.

Sad to hear.

What's a "Sears" and "Kmart"?

It's a junkyard.

OTOH Makita and Apple are made in China. It is a matter of Q/C. Remember when Japan's stuff was the laughing stock.

Sometimes I think it is the difference between inflation and deflation. In inflation people want more quality and will pay more for it, in deflation `people want more for their dollar. Germany is notorious for their quality and notorious for not inflating their currency since Weimar.

I like Kmart and will miss the one near me closing, just not very much.
