Sounds just like my parents and their friends, especially the Oldsmobile part, which is what my father sold and he was a Rotarian (his brother, a Mason, sold Fords)! That must have really touched a sore spot. Somehow I guess that's supposed to justify the visceral hatred expressed towards Christianity and Christians that's so ubiquitous today? Pretty much makes the author's point as well. If you hate Christians and Christianity, any excuse is as good as another. By the way, how is 40% out of wedlock births for whites and 70% for blacks an improvement? Or the AIDS epidemic which was a direct result of the promiscuity of the 1970's which saw a level of infection by the end of the decade that would be more reflective of a Third World country than a modern industrial nation, how was that an improvement over traditional values?

And another big "yes" to that as well. Our society went from such a low level of crime from the 50's through the early 60's, to an explosion of violence from the late 60's throughout the 70's and early 80's it was virtually incalculable.

AMERICA! yearns for Traditional Values!

My parents, born in 1898 and 1902, were young adults in the 20's and I can assure you while there was lots of high living, traditional values were still the order of the day. The 20's represented the first decade when our society had for the first time things that are mainstream today. It was a transition from the 19th century to the 20th, hurried up because of the trauma of the Great War. Radio came in 1920, music turned jazzy in 1922, women cut their hair for the first time and wore knee-length skirts that look modern even today. True, it was a shock to their Victorian parents and just as like everything else at the time, it was celebrated in song. Cars had progressed beyond the virtually useless flivver stage to where young people could travel beyond the confines of home and movies were finally becoming serious to the point that Hollywood stars became part of the popular culture--all the things we have today were in their first version in the 20's. It wasn't until the cultural and sexual revolutions of the late 60's that traditional values were thrown to the side and many of the young people who were its first adherents are in their middle years today and are great proponents of destroying what's left of those values.

Blacks have among the highest church attendance of any demographic, and out-of-wedlock and unplanned pregnancies are lower in blue states, particularly in godless Massachusetts. The evidence that Christian worship reduces these things is not just lacking: It points to the opposite conclusion.

I never said that it did but that broken homes have increased substantially over the past 50 years in every part of our society. The point the article is making is that the viscious hatred that emanates from progressives and gay activists towards people who have and support traditional values is unfair and counterproductive. America was not founded on Marxist principles of atheism, and up until the late 1960's it had been a society with traditional values and religiously observant in the Judeo-Christian traditions. This isn't a new trend by any means, but has gathered momentum in recent years. The young people of the late 60's largely rejected the faiths in which they had been reared and also traded marriage for shacking up and romance for "relationships" and adopted a drug culture which is universal today. These people are now in their 50's and early 60's and younger people have simply followed their examples.
