Thank you for the detailed reply gentlemen.
It sounds like there's no getting around the $450/yr unfortunately.
The poor man's route for United Club lounges is the Chase MileagePlus Explorer card. You get two lounge passes per year. The fee is $100 per year, but you and a travel companion get the first bag checked free, so it breaks even after one roundtrip with a companion. I also got a boatload of miles when I signed up (50k, I think). As they say YMMV.
Thanks again for all the input.
I'll pass on this for now as I don't quite travel enough to make this effort and fee worth it.
Hi everyone,
Since I travel for work, I'm looking at options to get airport lounge access. I've been in United's airport lounges in Tokyo and SFO and it is definitely a treat to have free food, beer, and a quite place away from the hustle and bustle of the airport.
I know there are several credit cards (with annual fees of $500/yr) that allow access but before I plunk down the money, I'm wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives. Don't get me wrong, the $500 is probably well worth it for a frequent traveler, but I only fly about 4-5 times per year... That's $125 per trip for lounge use which isn't worth it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
