His wifes operatives are hunkered down in debate prep but Bill Clinton is waging a campaign of his own, trying to clear the name of a Foundation that has caused controversy in the 2016 race. The former president views the final glitzy meeting of his Clinton Global Initiative — which he will address on Wednesday in an emotional farewell — as his last big opportunity to counter accusations that the philanthropy served as a vehicle for wealthy foreign donors to curry access with his wifes State Department. […] But with 48 days left in this contest — and voters in...

Allies of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton are grumbling about the Clinton Foundation meeting in New York, noting that the charity has been a burden for the candidate rather than a bonus.

Politico reports:

“They would have been better off postponing it this year,” said one member of the Democratic National Committee and a Clinton ally. “The foundation has been a negative this year, with concerns about donors seeking influence and access — why shine light on it right before the debate?”

The criticism comes as Bill Clinton prepares to mount a defense of the “charity” in a speech at the final day of the Clinton Foundation’s meeting in New York. Politico notes:

The former president views the final glitzy meeting of his Clinton Global Initiative — which he will address on Wednesday in an emotional farewell — as his last big opportunity to counter accusations that the philanthropy served as a vehicle for wealthy foreign donors to curry access with his wife’s State Department.

The Clinton Foundation has been on the defensive ever since 2015, when the Government Accountability Institute and Breitbart editor Peter Schweizer investigated its use as an alleged vehicle for bribery and self-enrichment, especially during Hillary Clinton’s term as Secretary of State. Evidence from newly-released emails has only confirmed the thesis first laid out in Clinton Cash — namely, that the Clintons helped donors to their foundation gain special favors from the government. In some cases, as in the sale of 20% of U.S. uranium to a Russian company, those favors damaged America’s national interest.

Whew it's a good thing the Clintons didn't write a check from the wrong account.

They were safe though, they never cut checks their opperation was an intake only affair.

Trump used $258,000 from his charity to settle legal problems

Donald Trump spent more than a quarter-million dollars from his charitable foundation to settle lawsuits that involved the billionaire’s for-profit businesses, according to interviews and a review of legal documents.

Those cases, which together used $258,000 from Trump’s charity, were among four newly documented expenditures in which Trump violated laws against “self-dealing” — which prohibit nonprofit leaders from using charity money to benefit themselves or their businesses.

I used to care about this stuff.

Then I realized that people who understand what Trump means already won't support him under any circumstances, and people who support Trump like him precisely because he will stop at nothing: no legal or ethical barriers exist.

It's some simian/primate thing. "Strong-'n'-wrong" appeals to the submissive voter, desiring to be led. "He lied about a black man and asked him to show ID? Good!"; "He defrauded the winner of $1 million in a hole-in-one contest? Well, then he won't let the Constitution or the Geneva Conventions stop him from keeping me safe."
