The Republican says "It's a Skittle! Run!"
The Democrat says "Hey, that's a human. Treat him with respect, and don't judge him by the category you are putting him in."

The Republican PatNet deplorable crowd bitches that the Muslims are more evil than Republicans, because they treat gays and women even worse than the Republicans Christians want to. They complain that the Democrats would treat the Muslims like shit if they were consistent and fair. What these PatNet deplorables are missing is that the Democrats are respecting individuals and saying that each individual has rights and should be treated fairly. The Democrats are not respecting the portions on Islamic teaching that are unfair to gay people and women. If there were a lot of Muslims in the US trying to erect statues of Mohammad on public land, it would be Democrats lining up to oppose it. Well, the Christians would be there too, but not because they are opposed to religious symbols on public land. They just want different religious symbols.

I bring this up in a separate thread, because I see variations on this argument getting made all the time, like in this comment: https://patrick.net/?p=1293857&c=1309789#comment-1309789

This just illustrates your EXTREME ignorance of the situation. Muslims are FORBIDDEN from erecting statues of any kind, even paintings or murals are Haram. And a statue of Mohammed would be considered to be the most grievous insult possible to a Muslim, as images of their prophet are forbidden and punishable by death.

Take your ignorance elsewhere. You're the least informed person on Patnet, with no room to judge the wiser heads posting here.

Substitute a flag or whatever symbol you like for a statue of Mohammed. I see you avoided the main point of the post. Typical.

A Democrat, a Muslim, and a Republican walk into a bar

The Muslim gets dragged out and beaten by the "refugees" that YesYNot insisted on importing, because Islam prohibits drinking alcohol. Afterwards the "refugees" forgive their fellow Muslim and hand him a weapon so they can all join forces and kill the Democrat and Republican.

Hey You loves a story with a happy ending.

Epilogue: AF/DBOAPD arrives with an icecream truck and a ski mountain snowmaking machine, freezes the jihadi terrorists, smashes them into pieces with a hammer borrowed from Thor, and drives around selling jihadi popsicles. Remember, it's a presidential campaign, and children are watching.

Hillary Clinton Shows Up Late to College Event, Says This Is ‘One of the Strangest Elections’ Ever.

Hillary Clinton kept a small crowd waiting Wednesday at the University of New Hampshire where she, alongside Bernie Sanders, gave a lackluster speech about helping college students.

And while Sanders and Kaine were out playing Kiss Ass with Hiltery those sorry no good Republicans took heed to Donald Trump putting them on notice Monday night, and over rode Obama's Veto.

Because the Democrats didn't have the votes to stop them. You should have seen the look on their pathetic Liberal do good faces. Whoooo Yeah Yeah fun times Fun times.

What a strange election it's been.

what's the difference between an Arab and a camel?
A camel is a "beast of burden"
An Arab is both a beast and a burden.

Coffee with Jesus (political humor)

A Republican, in a wheelchair, entered a restaurant one afternoon and asked the waitress for a cup of coffee.
The Republican looked across the restaurant and asked is that Jesus sitting over there?" The waitress nodded "yes!
So, the Republican requested that she give Jesus a cup of coffee, on him.

The next patron to come in was a Libertarian, with a hunched back. He shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat
down, and asked the waitress for a cup of hot tea. He also glanced across the restaurant and asked, "Is that Jesus,
over there?" The waitress nodded, so the Libertarian asked her to give Jesus a cup of hot tea, "My treat."

The third patron to come into the restaurant, was a Democrat on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat
down and hollered, "Hey there honey! How's about getting me a cold mug of Miller Light!" He, too, looked across
the restaurant and asked, "Isn't that God's boy over there?"The waitress nodded, so the Democrat directed her to
give Jesus a cold beer. "On my bill," he said loudly so everyone in the restaurant could hear.

As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the Republican, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed."
The Republican felt the strength come back into his legs, got up and began to praise the Lord. Jesus passed by the
Libertarian, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Libertarian felt his back straightening up,
he raised his hands and he, too, began to praise the Lord.

Then, Jesus walked, with a huge smile on his face, towards the Democrat. The Democrat jumped up and yelled,
"Don't touch me....... I'm on disability."

What race are Muslims?

Strategist says

What race are Muslims?

Ultra never said that he was racist for his thoughts about Muslims, so this is a bit off topic. But I'll respond anyway, because you are bringing up another useless tangential argument that should be clarified.

Muslims are adherents of a religion (Islam). Most Muslims are located in the Middle East, India, and Africa. Arabs are a large group of Muslims, and they are often thought of synonymous with Islam. Arabs tend to be darker skinned than European and American Caucasians. They are classified as Caucasian by the US Census, but that is somewhat arbitrary. They are more closely related to Europeans genetically than say Africans, but that fact not readily known to most racists / bigots (that is important). Africans or people descended from Africans make up another large group of Muslims.

Racists are by definition bigots, who belittle other groups of people and often prejudge individuals of those groups. So, when a bread and butter racist/bigot in the US thinks of a Muslim, he/she sees a dark skinned person from far away, and he/she applies prejudiced thoughts to Muslims. It's a semantic waste of time to argue whether they are a racist or bigot. What if they think that Arabs are a different race or consider that to be true. They are just railing against the other group that they perceive as dangerous and worth less than themselves. The vast majority of bigots are also racist, so if someone sees someone being a bigot and calls that person a racist, there's a pretty good chance that they are correct. I also bet if you asked people at Trump rallies if Arabs or Muslims were the same race as them, half would say no.

Now, none of the above means that you cannot discuss merits and drawbacks of Islam. That, of course is not racist. But I fail to see any good point in deflecting accusations of racist behavior by saying, well actually, they are being a bigot, not a racist, because Muslims are not a race.

Here's a map of Muslim populations:

I'd say what most people object to is our politicians' complete lack of truth about Islamic teaching. Islam teaches that you must be killed if you try to leave Islam, or if you criticize Mohammed, or if you are gay, and for many other reasons that directly conflict with basic human rights. And people are actually getting killed by Muslims for these things around the world.

What people are complaining about is that our politicians continue to lie in public about Islam. It is in absolutely no way a "religion of peace".

I'd agree with this. If I had to choose whether to live in a predominantly Muslim or predominantly Christian society today, I would obviously choose the Christian society. That's a practical decision based on how Islam and Christianity are practiced today. It doesn't matter what is in the scriptures or what the 'true' nature of the religion is. What matters is how it is practiced.

There is some debate about what the 'true' nature of the religion is (religion of peace or religion of barbarity and terrorism). In other words, there is a war of ideas about how the religion should be interpreted, and that is why the branding of Islam alongside the words radical and terrorist is thought by many (mostly Democrats) to be terribly damaging. But that is an aside.

On immigration, what matters is that we keep a culture in our country that stays true to the founding principles of our country and our culture today. Freedom of religion and freedom of speech are basically the same freedom (that is why they are in one amendment). However, your religion does not allow you to act outside of the law. So, a Muslim in America has the freedom to pray to Allah, but not to cut off someone's hand or kill them for any reason. There is obviously a real risk to letting Muslims (or anyone) immigrate. There will be bad ones as well as good ones, regardless of where they come from. The issue is how can we manage the risk while staying true to our principle of freedom of speech and freedom to be an atheist or practice any religion of choice.

Love what you said. All religions have what we consider as human rights abuses, but only Islam practices their crap to such a horrible extent. Whole countries enforce the rotten shariah laws. Millions are full of hate to the West, and support terrorism. We can't even publicly draw cartoons without becoming a target.
This rotten religion deserves to be shamed.

I think that it's the approach to fixing the problem that is the biggest point of contention. The approach you favor is based on your understanding of human nature.

Love what you said.

We probably agree on plenty. Hopefully, after the election, the country can focus a bit more on practical solutions. But the acrimonious nature of public debate at the moment is a pretty big obstacle. The losing team may accept that the election wasn't rigged, but they will not likely show any respect for the winner.
