Thirteen years after the launch of the Do Not Call list, exasperated federal regulators are applying pressure on major phone carriers and tech companies to come up with ways to rein in the worsening volume of robocalls. (Photo illustration by Kirk Christ, sources: Shutterstock.

Landlines are nothing but an ear-fuck and ear mugging. Got rid of damned thing, pest of hell, a while ago.

All they have to do is strike a deal with the phone company to operate on numbers the phone company says can't be traced.

My cell # has been compromised. Considering getting a new one. Never give a real phone # to a retailer. Stupid.

The last 3-6 months or so I have been getting marketing calls on my cellphone, sometimes several times a week. That never used to happen.

1. Introduce a law that allows you to order their products, but not pay for it.
2. Take away their business license.

The solution is easy. Whenever anyone gets a unsolicited spam call, they should be able to dial *999 to report it. Upon doing so, they get $100 credited to their phone account at the expense of the caller's carrier. The caller's carrier can then charge the $100 back to the individual account holder.

Do this and no one will EVER robocall people. It would end telemarketing overnight.

You just need a little financial incentive to not troll people and the trolling stops. The problem with all persistent bad behavior is the lack of a downside.
