This seems to have evolved out of the Mormons' desire to filter profanity and nudity out of movies. I remember reading about the case of some video store years ago that tried to edit videos before renting them out and was sued for copyright violation because of that. They were told they had to rent the whole movie, or none of it.

So this new site seems to literally sell you a dvd for $20, which you have them then stream to you, and then you sell it back to them for $19. The physical dvd stays on their premises. And then you, as the user, can choose filters which block certain aspects of the movie that you don't want to see.

And I heard the movie industry is suing to stop this too.

I usually just wait for them to be on broadcast TV.

I think it's ironic that copyright, which supposedly protects against theft, is actually the largest affront to property rights in this country. Even if you pay for a physical disk, thanks to copyright, it's never really your property. The bigger issue concerning the internet though is information being suppressed in the name of copyright. The GNU license is a prime example of what copyright should be, and everything that's wrong with these corporations that make nothing, but simply purchase the "rights" to other people's work.

I miss the 80s / 90s movies ported to Network TV with the obscenities replaced.

"Fork You, Pal."

"How many people on this ship are Buttheads?"

From TalkRadioX.com, I created this video by request of the morning crew at WPDH 101.5 FM in the Hudson Valley of New York in 2001. The original music was written and performed by Vito Petroccitto.

A U.S. district judge has sided with Hollywood studios in their legal battle to block VidAngel, the streaming service that lets users filter unwanted language, sex and nudity from movies.

Judge Andre Birotte Jr. in Los Angeles granted a preliminary injunction against the Provo, Utah-based start-up, which allows people to stream cleaned-up versions of movies including “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Deadpool” for $1 each.
