Haven't made up my mind on how I feel about this. Someone pull me in their direction via persuading argument, will ya?
I'd like to see Trump comment about Mazda and Subaru sometime soon:

Trump wall looms over Mazda's Mexico production
Mazda has no U.S. factories, so this could jeopardize the company's North American strategy.

It's simple, if it's sold in USA, it needs to me made in USA. Only exceptions should be Canada, and anything for product mix, and even then only if the company has offsetting exports. These are good high paying jobs that we are giving away to other countries while we support people here with welfare benefits instead.
I think there are two avenues here...
The first one is big ticket items like cars, boats, etc. Those I tend to agree should be made in the USA if they are going to be sold in the USA.
But for low cost commodity items? T-shirts, socks, plastic injection molded crap, pens, coffee mugs, etc...? You make those here and you just created inflation on those items.
I don't know if I agree with there being a 35% tariff for socks or coffee mugs made in China and being shipped to the USA. I'm not 100% decided, but seems odd.

Unfortunately, Japanese cars not made in Japan don't have the same quality. Experienced it first-hand with one US-made Toyota: it's not in the same zip code quality-wise as the ones which came on the boat from Japan proper.
Eric, I think it's your imagination.
Toyota builds and qualifies their plants according to their standards. And Toyota parts are utilized for the builds.
There are certain models and years that aren't up to par with others, but I don't think the factory has anything to do with that.

I dunno: check out the whole debacle with frames rusting through on Toyota's midsize and full-size pickups and SUVs made in USA (Tacome, Tundra, Sequoia) - this just doesn't happen with LandCruisers/LX470s which are still assembled on the islands. Because the frames were as sourced from Dana and Dana screwed the pooch big time.
Then there are some little annoying failures which would be nothing special on domestic truck (and totally expected on anything German).
PS. I know, I know it's a giant sample of one, but still...

Then get a Ford instead. They are better anyway.
Toyota announces $10 billion U.S. investment days after Trump warning
Chalk up another win for the president-elect!
Toyota is set to make a $10 billion capital investment in the U.S. over the next five years, Toyota Motor North America chief executive Jim Lentz said during an interview at the Detroit auto show, Reuters reported.
I'm almost getting tired of Winning.
Even in California, people have the highest confidence in the economy in years:

Finally, we will have a real recovery.
It's all Trump's fault.
Once people realize how much potential there is when a politician actually gives a shit about America and tries to improve it there will be massively increased standards on our presidents and public servants for years to come and increased accountability. Dems and cuckservatives will not be able to get away with being inert, wasteful, and crooked as much anymore. Whoever doesn't get their shit together fast to compete with a Trump administration in the next 8 years is going to get utterly schlonged.
can you imagine Useless or Failary do something like this?

Every nation could say that and all our car exports will be stopped. Problem is, if the cheaper cars are made here, the people who now can afford them won't be able to Einstein.

So, you're saying that you'd prefer everything to be imported?
U.S. auto imports hit all-time high
Washington — U.S. auto imports hit a new all-time high in the first half of the year — as auto production is surging in lower wage countries such as Mexico and a strong dollar is hindering American exports.
The overall U.S. trade deficit rose 7.1 percent — adjusted for seasonal fluctuations — to $43.8 billion in June. Autos, which includes vehicles, parts and engines, accounted for more than one-third of the trade deficit as U.S. auto imports rose to $29.8 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported Wednesday.
U.S. exports of autos are down $3 billion in the first half of 2015 to $74.8 billion. Auto exports were flat in June at $12.6 billion — up just $62 million.
By contrast, U.S. imports of autos rose by $10.8 billion to $171.5 billion in the first six months of the year.
171.5 Billion is much greater then 74.8 Billion. ~100 Billion loss is a lot of auto worker jobs. But you don't understand that because you are bad at math, or something.
The automaker can build a Camry in Japan, ship it all the way to Kentucky and make more money selling that car than from one built at Toyota's factory in the state, the plant's president told employees in a 2 1/2 minute-long internal video obtained by Bloomberg News.
FINALLY!!!!

President-elect Donald Trump set his sights Thursday on Toyota, attacking the Japanese automaker for expanding in Mexico to sell more vehicles to Americans, as he builds support for his proposed tariff on vehicles imported to the U.S.
The attack heightens tension between Trump and the auto industry over vehicles that are made in foreign markets for sale to American consumers.
"NO WAY!" Trump said in a tweet about Toyota. "Build plant in U.S. or pay big border tax."
Trump has proposed renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement to punish companies that manufacture vehicles in Mexico and sell them in the U.S. with a 35% tariff.
Toyota U.S. sales chief Bill Fay confirmed on Wednesday that the company is expanding its existing plant in Baja to add annual production capacity of 60,000 Tacoma pickup trucks for sale in the U.S. Production may start as soon as late 2017. The Tacoma is a hot seller in the U.S., even outselling the vaunted Prius hybrid in 2016.
