The other stat that is relevant to my lived experience is that the percentage of the population that is foreign born is close to its historic high right now. It is roughly THREE TIMES what it was when I was a boy. Towns that I grew up in in the Central Valley are utterly transformed.

If in the 50s, a man could have a modest home and support a family on a full time factory job, then today if there was any progress, he should be able to do the same on a Part Time job. High Paying low education jobs were outsourced, starting with Reagan but primarily under Bill Clinton. They will come back right away after a 20% Tariff is imposed. We need to carefully look and see what bad policies post 1975 were deployed that reversed a great trend. I suggest starting with Free Trade Policies.
