There was a show on tonight in the San Francisco area from 6pm to 7pm called "Eye to Eye" which was so wildly different from KQED's usual 24/7 anti-Trump hate machine that I was absolutely stunned and had to listen to it. They at least two reasonable non-leftie people talking about how every KQED story since the election has been overtly biased editorializing and therefore untrustworthy. One of the two non-leftists pointed out that every detail in every story about Trump's nominees has been negative, which of course destroys the credibility of their reporting.

KQED and NPR have obviously damaged their reputations beyond repair by abandoning journalism in favor of full-time editorials since the election, but at least someone at the radio station seems at least somewhat aware of the disaster and is starting to look into ways to steer themselves back towards actual journalism, perhaps even by hiring at least one reporter who is not a 100% left-wing jihadi. I'm certain that KQED does not have any politically independent reporters yet, but there is hope since that point about uniform left wing views was actually brought up. It was quickly dismissed by an offhand "we don't have litmus tests for our reporters", but at least the issue made it onto public airtime.

It was truly shocking.

Patrick--

I think you're down the rabbit hole. I've seen no such negative articles on Gorsuch.

If you think the articles are DeVos, Sessions, Tillerson, are unfair-please explain why.

2   Patrick   2017 Feb 12, 7:18pm

Have you heard even one positive comment on NPR, ever, about any Trump nominee?

3   Y   2017 Feb 12, 7:19pm

Libbys are a head case these days.
Maybe if trump throws them a bone, like Kellannes head they'd calm down a bit...

This could be part of the reason for NPR's attitude though:

http://www.dailydot.com/layer8/trump-administration-cuts-arts-funding-radio-npr/

Meh, what, less than 5%? Previous administrations had already cut NPR's funding so they were already getting most of their funding from extremely liberal billionaires, corporations, and universities, with the tacit (or perhaps explicit) understanding that no right leaning viewpoints were ever to be presented seriously:

Once again Tatty, "another" one of your bullshit comments. You do know what "another" means, don't you?

None of those are negative articles. Those are articles reporting on Dems views.

If you don't know the difference, then you have no reason to comment here.

7   Y   2017 Feb 12, 7:29pm

Maybe this is a new twist on inherited liberal guilt...

What's your definition of "negative"?? (this should be good, I'll go get popcorn).

Typically editorial articles or articles where the author is digging up dirt on the nominee.

Reporting what the opposition party thinks is not my idea of a negative article. It's typical SOP.

Printing what pelosi said is a negative article? That's what reporters do, print what people say. So they should just make up what Pelosi says so you aren't all butt hurt? You are truly a fucking idiot.

I don't listen to NPR 24/7, but you have to admit that many of Trump's nominees have been less than stellar. DeVos, Sessions, Tillerson. Not exactly Team of Rivals there.

Are you expecting them to make shit up?

They're all pretty shitty appointments, so naturally they won't yield very positive commentary.

I guess you want everyone to get a trophy, though.

It depends on your view doesn't it? Many of trumps nominees have been much more than stellar if you are part of the koch brothers political influence network. For them it doesn't get better than a cabinet full of the heavy players in the dark money game that have spent their lives getting more and more ultra rich by destroying the living standard of everyone working for them. The best part is the trump voters, most of whom are trump voters because their standard of living has been crushed by these same people, are standing around singing happy days are here again. I'm sure that now these cabinet picks are in public service the good of the average citizen is the first and only thing they think about all day. I'm also sure that santa clause is real and actually lives at the north pole.

All happening pretty much without notice while everyone is running around in hysterics about meaningless executive orders, endless cries of voter fraud, and an all consuming (at least for patrick and lips) search for fake news in everything written by the press.

Bread and circus. Trump is shaping up to be the best huckster of the 21st century. A combination of PT Barnum, Professor Harold Hill, and Hitler. Note to the trumptards. That is not saying trump is hitler. It means trump has hitlers incredible almost supernatural talent for manipulating large crowds of people into a pretty much hypnotic state.

Fuck these butt hurt people, this ends after we've had enough and send in the gaurd and with that Indian wannabe interloper cunt ends up in jail. For impersonating a human being.

The only butt hurt people on here, as far as I can tell, are you, Patrick, Lips et. al. Every day there's like 5 new threads about how Trump isn't being treated nicely. Boo fucking hoo. He's President of the United States. How about everyone stop worrying about the press and concentrate on doing their job? Writing executive orders that are actually Constitutional. Acting on that ISIS plan that he had ready during the primaries. Getting Mexico to pay for the wall.

1. Commentary belongs in the editorials, it's not news to give a reporter's opinion.
2. What are the odds there each appointee is 100% evil?

Did NPR call them 100% evil? I doubt it. It probably called them unqualified.

You guys are managing to see commentary in everything written including direct quotes. If the only tool you have is a hammer then everything looks like a nail.

Mattis got pretty big praise all around.

20   CL   2017 Feb 13, 2:14pm

Trump is definitely unconventional. I had hoped, wrongly, that perhaps that meant he'd stick it to the rightwing, at least occasionally, the way he skewered FauxNews, and other Republican shibboleths during the race.

Instead, he's delivering terrible and inexperienced cabinet members. He's operating like he has a mandate (and in ways that real mandated executives do NOT). He lost the popular, bigly, and can barely get his fringe whackjobs confirmed. He blatantly lies (I'll show my tax returns) and his supporters have no interest in holding him accountable.

So, the answer to the question is , yes. He is selecting particularly terrible nominees. The GOP is discombobulated it doesn't know whether to cozy up to him or run in terror from the damage being caused by him.

The Bushes, McCain and Romney all think he's a dildo too.

I'm not a huge fan of his cabinet.
I think the "I have a mandate" language is more from others to his ear, than Trump himself. He was going to operate like a unilateral authoritarian regardless.
He is getting people confirmed at a pretty good rate. It's certainly not the slowest in history yet, by any stretch. The Dems are right to let their concerns be known.

On Trump's lies, you are right. We must continue to expose them. The issue is that emotion (specifically fear, and what 'sounds correct or best') is replacing actual reason.

So I do think the media has to continue to do what it is doing: expose the BS from all angles. The thing that is needed to win is a better vision of America, presented by progressives and Dems, which can counteract the blatant irrational fear. As it is, I'm not sure this illogical fear mongering can be thwarted until people feel more economically stable. After that, we may get their ear again.

In the meantime, thank goodness for state and municipal rights, and the 'resist' movement as well.

A totally barftastic cabinet. Agree.

But, respectfully, most are within some sort of 'general norms'. We give presidents a lot of leniency to pick the cabinet that they want. DeVos is super inexperienced with Public schools, but to be fare, she has spent most her life dealing with school policy. (when she isn't donating tons of money to "buy" her position ... that is. wink )

Can't wait for Ellison to become DNC Chair.

KQED and NPR have obviously damaged their reputations

You need to stop listening to dirty hippie west coast NPR stations and start listening to intellectual elitist east coast NPR stations. The quality is orders of magnitude better. I've listened to both. West coast just sucks. East coast NPR is like PBS.

Unfortunately Diane Rehm retired and her show is over, but On Point and All Things Considered are still good. The morning news on WLRN is also still good. It's not like that west coast crap.

Bush senior is mad that low energy Jeb got buried in nominations for suggesting that his family was responsible for making America safer and that trump happened to be the messenger that pointed out the BS in that statement.

Hardly worst thing in world. Establishment GOP shut down the government during the tail end of obama presidency. Jeb GW and bush sr are part and parcel of that establishment and Prescott bush financed the real Nazis.

28   Dan8267   2017 Feb 13, 8:55pm

It's great that Republicans have all confirmed Trump's cabinet while Democrats denounced them all. Now the Republicans have officially claimed owning the Trump administration. He's not a rebel if you confirmed every single one of his appointments with a unanimous vote.

DeVos is awsome!

Here main goals will likely be:

1. Shove federally mandated voucher system down all states throat. This means public schools lose half or more of students, the remaining ones only see them as daycare.

2. Shut down the dept of education as there are no such thing as a federal school, so its worthless.

SHE IS PERFECT FOR THIS TASK.
