Instead of money, this pledge drive is about new users, especially ones that support your own point of view, lol!

Please help by making a commitment to click at least two share links after any post or comment you like.

It should pop up your email program with a truly minimal message like this:

Subject: Differing views on how people get to be rich

https://patrick.net/1304428/2017-03-28-differing-views-on-how-people-get-to-be-rich

Send them out and that's all there is to it! If you enjoy the site, or just want to expose your writing to a bigger audience, let's get some new users.

Yes, not what I thought. I thought you were going to ask PatNetters to pledge not to promote fake news and alternative facts. Now that would be a good pledge.

Each user can attempt to bring in new users by making more intelligent, well-written, and well thought out posts. This is the most persuasive way to grow a user base on a forum.

Sure, that would be good!

You do realize that the presence of a few trolls prevents exactly that from happening, right?

5   Patrick   2017 Mar 31, 3:22pm

Maybe you'd get bored without Ironman there.

No. There are more than enough idiots in the world. And I would look forward to the boredom of not having to deal with the problem such idiots create in the real world. That would be a nice boredom. I'd even call it another name: relaxation.

7   Patrick   2017 Mar 31, 3:35pm

I like most of Dan's posts. He does make thoughtful arguments.

@Ironman you are by far the most negative, snide, and mocking person on the site. You have some good points, but a truly awful personality. Why not just try to feel good will for others and see if you can learn something as well as teach?

8   Dan8267   2017 Mar 31, 3:49pm

rando says

I have yet to see CIC even demonstrate a broken clock being coincidentally right. But yes, his personality is awful. Being himself is both his crime and his punishment.

I quite frankly don't get how dumb a person has to be to think that he's persuading people to his side by being such a despicable wretch. And it's not like he's an intelligent, witty asshole. He's quite dumb, completely uncreative, and has the charisma of an unflushed toilet. He's like if Donald Trump had a nasty, retarded brother who was half chimp.

I don't see why you put up with him.

9   Patrick   2017 Mar 31, 3:51pm

I try to put up with everyone, knowing that I have my own flaws.

10   Dan8267   2017 Mar 31, 3:52pm

rando says

He does make thoughtful arguments.

People may not like what I say, but everything I write is honest and has some justification to back it up. I never present misinformation, so if you're going to disagree with me either you have your facts wrong or we have different value judgements. In the former case, I will humiliate the opposition. In the later, all I can say is that our values differ. Value judgements may be repugnant, but they cannot be right or wrong. In contrast, facts are.

People like CIC hate people like me because we can expose their lies and hypocrisy so easily. They can't bullshit when we are around.

11   Patrick   2017 Mar 31, 5:10pm

How about sharing a post with someone?

That's the whole point of this thread.

12   🎂 Tenpoundbass   2017 Mar 31, 5:30pm

All I have is spammers I'm in regular contact with. I supose I could send them a bit of links.

but a truly awful personality.

Why, because I refuse to be Politically Correct??

No, because you are malicious and petty, and don't give a damn about the truth or about others. This is a point you demonstrate even in this thread. What's really sad is that you think you are hurting other people with your words when you really are just revealing what a loser you are. No person with a real life or friends would care to upset strangers on the Internet. Loneliness and misery loves company, and you illustrate that every day.

I do posts links to Gab from time to time.

Oh honey buns, feel free to explain exactly how I am a troll and with examples. Just because I debunk your lies does not make me a troll. A troll disrupts conversations and derails the debate of central points. I do the exact opposite. I attack the central ideas of my opponents and expose why they are wrong.

But hey, prove me wrong. Show a single example in my 25,594 and climbing comments where I even attempted to disrupt a conversation, distract from the central points of a discussion, or mislead the audience in any way. With nearly 26,000 comments, the evidence should be damn easy to find if it exists.

I call bullshit on you.

Maybe it is hard to recommend this site...

22   NuttBoxer   2017 Apr 4, 1:43pm

Never really noticed that share icon. There is some real gold(mostly of the hilarious/outrageous nature), on Patnet. I will definitely share next time I see/post some.

Thanks!

Yea while I enjoy patnet, I wouldn't want to subject anyone I like to the massive brain drain that is your resident troll, the most negative person on the site.

I do like the feature you added where you display the currently logged on users atop the page.

I'd think that a certain someone might not like people seeing that he lives under ghe bridge to patnet 24/7, just waiting to spread his misery. But maybe he's such a failed loser, he doesn't care that people see that he has no life

I am certain that is the case. And no need to mention names. We all know exactly who you are talking about.

Normally, I find it odd when a singular person speaks in plural like "we". However, in this case, it does seem appropriate.

Why is it that some people feel the need to pluralize I to we? Is it because they know their words are bogus, so they invent imaginary friends to get their back?

27   anonymous   2017 Apr 25, 3:02pm

There's only one person in this thread posting images in likeness of their self, or as you describe in your oh so sad, self deprecating way, "crap". Freudian slip?

I, of course, meant everyone reading or participating in this thread, and clearly I was correct as that person could not resist immediately joining in, demonstrating his ugly personality.

29   Patrick   2017 Apr 25, 3:38pm

Should there be some kind of civility cutoff, where users below a certain civility level are not seen unless you explicitly ask for that?

How about you just grow a set and ban him? You've poured how many hours of your time into this site. Valuable time you could have spent any number of ways , with your family etc. Yet you are too much of a pussy to do the right thing.

In the time he's been vandalizing your site, and harassing other users, you've been bleeding members. You want to ask those of us that remain, to invite our friends and family here? Subject them to that crap? GET A CLUE, PATRICK

31   curious2   2017 Apr 25, 4:09pm

Is it because they know their words are bogus, so they invent imaginary friends to get their back?

One user whom I respect but occasionally disagree with has at least three different accounts, ostensibly for himself and two others in the same household, and presumes to speak for all three at least. He might also be using "the royal we". He seems to use "we" mainly when caught up in fight mode, trying to reinforce unsourced and sometimes counter-factual comments that would not really get much if any agreement. His better comments that cite links stand on their own with no need for imaginary friends or pretensions to royalty, so it might be some psychological over-compensation or attempt to intimidate.

It reminds me of Islam: "submit to my false assertions or my followers will beat you down."

Ironman says

it's the guy who posts this crap:

You are the only one posting those photos to this thread. If you want to post photos, the one from Stripes made me laugh, partly because it reminded me of Bill Murray, whom I love. Really, if you and Dan want to continue fighting for some reason, a sort of Geneva convention might help a lot. I suggest:
1) no NSFW photos;
2) not starting in on each other in multiple threads where the other has not even commented yet.
Maybe if you could limit these skirmishes to text or simply amusing photos, in one thread per day, PatNet might not be quite so difficult to recommend or admit associating with.

32   anonymous   2017 Apr 25, 4:16pm

The Dan v. Ironman feud is the most disinteresting thing I've ever witnessed. It's so bad that anytime i sense it is about to continue, i have to fight the urge to gouge my eyes out with a spork. Almost as disinteresting as any of the other Ironman vs. (insert the majority of patnet users names at random)

#sad

Yea, that as well.

35   Patrick   2017 Apr 25, 5:10pm

Hmmm, OK. I'm going to:

1. Limit user accounts to one per IP address.
2. Run all of Ironman's comments through moderation from now on. So I'll have to vet them for reasonable civility.

I should be able to get that done tomorrow.

36   Rew   2017 Apr 25, 5:34pm

Pnet is internet junk food in the guise of debate.

errc says

I think that because the majority of the scientific world thinks that. Yes. We are at 400ppm, and growing by 2ppm per year, due to human fossil fuel use.

But today, between Ironman and Hater, my gosh the level of data analysis hit an all time record low. Amazingly laughable. That has been entertaining for me. :)

Instead of being such a whiner and crybaby, there's this feature here called "ignore".... Why don't you try it???

Or continue to whine and cry like a little girl, your choice???

I'm not a whiner, I'm a pragmatic Problem Solver. Looks like I just helped Patrick solve his Troll problem. So how about you take the hint and find another forum to pollute and vandalize. Save him the trouble of having to moderate all your posts. Ok?

Yes, that's the solution, continue to cater to the Special Snowflakes and the minority crybabies...

That will surely bring in NEW users.... NOT....

Au Contraire mon frere. Quit your whining

39   Patrick   2017 Apr 25, 6:39pm

Good point. Errc is hardly much better.

Maybe. But definitely different.

I'd prefer to attack a persons ideas, whereas Ironman spends all his waking hours attacking people.
