Illegal aliens cost California $30.29 billion every single year—this includes their contribution in terms of taxes.

This works out to $7,352 per illegal immigrant.

This massive burden is one of the main reasons California’s schools and infrastructure is in a total state of disrepair.

These estimates are likely very low, since they don’t include any intangible costs associated with crime or increased systemic strain, they low-ball remittance estimates, and the number of illegal aliens in California is realistically at least double the numbers used.

There has got to be SOME reason that we pay the highest tax rate and it's still never enough!

Amen brotha. This illegal immigration debate blows my mind. It's so politicized by the Left that people can't think logically and clearly about what the right thing to do is. If the illegal immigrants were highly skilled, that would improve the situation significantly...but generally people crossing the border illegally will be maids, ditch-diggers, fruit-pickers, and/or criminals. Very little value-add, and likely a major drain.

That's ok, Canada will gladly take them, right?

Canadian rights groups pin the blame solely on Donald Trump and his heavy-handed executive orders to crackdown on immigration. “There’s no question what’s driving them,” Paul Caulford, a doctor at the Canadian Centre for Refugee and Immigrant Healthcare outside Toronto, told Public Radio International in February. “Virtually every person who’s crossed, from pregnant women in the back of trucks to those shepherding their children to safety, have said to us that the United States is no longer a safe country for them to be in.”

Hilarious. Canada is pissed because the US is cracking down on ILLEGAL immigration, thereby pushing them to cross their borders. HOW DARE WE??

I also find it stunning that no one on the left will even use the word "illegal" when talking about illegal aliens.

Do we have borders and laws, or do we not?

If we selectively do not enforce our laws, then everyone loses respect for the law.

Every single illegal alien should be deported immediately. Why is that even a controversial statement?

IF you were to look back at times I've discussed this on here, I believe I've used illegal more than "undocumented". Everyone knows what I'm talking about either way.

THe answer to this question and to your comment about liberals often preferring the term undocumented, is that the law never has been enforced in that way. Americans have been taking advantage of the cheap labor that illegal immigrants represent since forever.

These answers are ridiculously obvious. Nothing stunning or controversial about it at all.

Did you know there are states where oral sex is illegal ?

I mean come on people, is it illegal or not ?

Get it ? If the law isn't enforced and never was, then it's kind of not even illegal. Hence some choose not to emphasize the word illegal. IF I'm talking about oral sex, I wouldn't even mention the word illegal if I was in one of those states. Although if I was some kind of anti sex religious zealot I might always include the word illegal when mentioning oral sex. The reason why it works this way is not all that interesting.

If it's true that the number of illegal immigrants from Mexico is not greater today than it was 10 years ago, then I have to assume some significant percentage have been here for a long time, with families and strong ties here. Many have citizen children that are Americans and that will be tax paying productive members of society. As will their descendants.

Many say we are lucky to have them, since our economic health is dependent on population growth.

What this is actually about is that recent economic conditions have people feeling that this supply of workers is bad for American workers bargaining power combined with fears that things may soon be somewhat worse, even with some talking about guaranteed income as a way of adapting to increased automation and an even worse job market.

I can appreciate that point of view. But not sure that deporting people that have been living here and working here for decades is fair to those people.

I question the analysis of costs in the OPs article above. The costs for education and healthcare are based on some kind of per person cost. But the reality is these are not purely variable costs. For example, the amount spent per child for school would probably be higher (smaller class sizes) without all those students (not that that's a bad thing).

Nor is it considered that in the future most of these students will be tax paying citizens. Public education spending is always an investment that gets a return decades later. That was 15 billion of the cost estimate. AS if education is money somehow thrown away on those people.

But the biggest flaw of the analysis is the tax revenue. The author does take into consideration 3.5 billion in tax revenues he estimates are paid by illegal immigrants, but what about the taxes paid by those who benefit from their labor ? What about the lower prices paid by consumers and the additional profits made by all types of businesses that use this labor pool. What about the person that can afford to go to work at a 120k job becasue of the child care they get from an immigrant ? That's a very representative transaction. The 20K or whatever the woman gets for taking care of the toddlers doesn't contribute anything to the tax base, but her boss now is free to make a much higher income and pay taxes on it.

What about, what shmabaut... The guy did his research and presented the numbers. Simple whataboutism doesn't cut it: if you have done your home work and have your numbers, let's see them.

12   marcus   2017 Apr 30, 2:45pm

So let me get this straight. If a guy does a really weak analysis with gaping holes in it, it must be right becasue what, because he put it in writing ?

Is your issue that you're incapable of understanding the problems I bring up with his analysis ?

OR is this one of those "I"m sticking my fingers in my ears, LALALALALALALALALALALALALAL I CAN'T HEAR YOU !!!!"

Is that what you're saying ? Very compelling.

Straw Man says

The guy did his research and presented the numbers

I was being polite. THe guy is an idiot and his stupid analysis only reflects the conclusion he wanted to arrive at.

Tell me, do you think that the 15 billion number he uses for education makes sense ? Do you think that's just money thrown down the drain ? or are those children future tax paying citizens and consumers ?

Straw Man says

have your numbers, let's see them.

No, unlike the author, I'm not one to pull numbers out of my ass to justify my political point of view. I did present some logic though, that should inform you that his numbers are BS.

What about all the lost wages due to a labor glut caused by employers wanting illegal immigrants to do the work, and the lost taxes on those lost wages?

Republican farmers and home builders love to take advantage of this subsidy to their businesses.

You mean the taxes on the difference, between what they are paying in wages and what they would have paid ?

In some cases, the jobs might not have even existed if the labor cost wasn't low enough. In other cases it's extra profits to the employer, which likely is paid in high salaries to high level people or the owner, which is taxed at a higher rate. Unless it's reinvested and eventually taxed as capital gains. Maybe. I'm not suggesting it's not complicated. That would be the thesis of straw man's article.

There is a good argument for that. If we got read of low cost farm workers then jobs would go to engineers making automation products. If you got rid of low cost constructions workers, home builder owners would have to share more of their profits with regular workers.

Amazing: the "Liberals" are paying to import Islam, which is inherently illiberal, while paying to deport Christians, who are much more likely to be liberal. The Canadian "Liberals" are also moving against blasphemy, which they call "Islamophobia". Some Canadian "Liberals" appear to be suffering from Para-Muslim Syndrome (PMS), but others are most likely bribed by Petrodollar baksheesh. We had the same policy during the Obama administration: importing record numbers of Muslims, even bombing Muslim countries to drive Muslims out of their homes and into NATO countries, while also deporting record numbers of Christians. You can't honestly call it compassion, or liberal, nor anything like that; it's hijrah driven by KSA and the American MIC, plain and simple.

In June 2015 Coulter published Adios America! The Left’s Plan to Turn Our Country into a Third World Hellhole. The book argued that unchecked immigration, both legal and illegal, was increasing crime, straining the welfare state, and depressing blue-collar wages, and that the media, because of political correctness, and big business, for cheap labor, were preventing honest debate.

Sounds quite factual to me.

Of course it is expensive to have millions of people who use social services who also have children.

To medicate, educate and/or incarcerate people costs money.

The USA will become Bangladesh if we keep importing millions of poor. I prefer we be like Switzerland.

Strawberry farmers make about $18,000 acre profit so if they run out of people to pick the berries, they can pay higher wages and maybe find out how to mechanize it more.

The UFW sues farmers now for trying to mechanize.

I have lived in Mexico and it's a nice place to visit. You guys who are in favor of millions of Mexicans here need to live down there and not in hotels. You will find out they really don't like us that much, they are not like us that much (although more similar than muslims) and they resent us.

The country mascot is a rooster which is appropriate; the rooster is a dumb animal which will always try to fight with no provocation, doesn't do anything except crow and reproduce.
