NBC's Peter Alexander grills Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Cali.) for her displeasure at President Trump firing FBI Director James Comey after she had announced in January that he has lost all credibility after attending a classified briefing conducted by the now-former director.

In March, Waters issued a press release that read Comey "advanced Russia's misinformation campaign."

"I do not necessarily support the president's decision," Waters said. " I think that if the president would have fired him when he first came in, he would not have to be in a position now where he is trying to make up a story about why. It does not meet the smell test."

However, in the interview Wednesday on MSNBC, asked if she would be okay with a hypothetical President Hillary Clinton dismissing Comey from his position, Waters said yes.

"If she had won the White House, I believe that given what he did to her, and what he tried to do, she should have fired him. Yes," the California Democrat said.

"So she should have fired him but had he shouldn't fire him. This is why I'm confused," Alexander said to Waters.

You don't fire him 100+ days after the event, where he supposedly mishandled the very thing you praised him for when you were campaigning.
You don't hire a law firm to represent you and provide legal documents, of your non-involvement with Russia, before you fire him.
You don't have the AGs draft letters, at your direction, to specifically provide cause to fire him.
And you certainly don't do it while he has shifted to asking for more resources to investigate Russian collusion and increased his daily briefings on Russian matters from weekly to daily.

You also don't let it leak that you are surprised by the negative reaction of you firing Comey.
You also do it far more tactfully than televised letter to him while he is out of town.

Rumor has it Trump is planning a trip to FBI headquarters. I know they are all super excited for that right now. I can only imagine the emails coming in to FBI staff from the CIA staffers right now.

Trump is a horrible American. There is no honor here.

Nothing that Waters said is hypocritical if you actually read it. She basically said that if either Trump or Clinton had fired Comey immediately after taking office because of his bungling of the Clinton email investigation, it would have made sense.

But, for Trump to fire him now, 100+ days later, as the Russia investigation is seemingly gaining steam, and blame it on his handling of the Clinton investigation doesn't pass the smell test. Which it doesn't.

It's not that complicated.

10   FNWGMOBDVZXDNW   2017 May 11, 6:56am

Dems: Comey acted improperly during the election. There would have been reason to fire Comey over his role during the election.
Trump on October 28th: "The FBI - after discovering new emails, is re-opening their investigation into Hillary Clinton," Trump said at a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire. "I have great respect for the FBI for righting this wrong."
Trump on October 31st: "You know that. It took a lot of guts. I really disagreed with him. I was not his fan," Trump said of Comey. "I tell you what, what he did, he brought back his reputation. He brought it back. He's got to hang tough. A lot of people want him to do the wrong thing. What he did was the right thing."

Comey asks for more money to investigate Trump.
Comey tells Congress that Trump had no reason to accuse Obama of wiretapping.
Trump is fuming. He asks the AG and deputy AG to write memos outlining the case against Comey, and then he fires Comey. Trump blames the firing on the AG and deputy AG. He (likely fabricates) a story about himself not being under investigation. Trump blames firing on Comey's behavior back during the election, even though he praised Comey for his actions back then.
The Dems see that Trump is obviously firing Comey because he wants the FBI to investigate leaks instead of the things that the FBI think warrant investigation.

Trump fans somehow defend Trump's behavior and call the Dems out for being inconsistent. This is bizarre behavior.

Typical court cases drag on for months, going through layers upon layers of review, re-review, appeals, etc until a final verdict is rendered after a good amount of time to consider known facts, and letting other facts come to light.
If Trump had fired comey immediately after taking office you would be criticizing that also.
What this really amounts to is your hatred of trump, and your shame of losing a very winnable election.

And what does that have to do with anything?

"If Trump had fired comey immediately after taking office you would be criticizing that also."

We're not talking about my criticism, we're talking about Rep. Waters criticism which is completely and wholly justified. Despite your typical Ironman trolling technique of trying to make it about me.

Does it really take a great deal of creativity to connect the dots between Comey asking for more resources in his investigation of Trump and then getting fired by Trump less than 24 hours later?

ambiguous non-facts

In this case, it's fact-based. Trump's own comments and the timing of the firing are facts. Trump's motives are uncertain, but based on reporting (his administration is still leaking like a sieve) his motives are that he was mad about Comey's interest in Trump Russia collusion and mad at Comey for not playing along with his Obama lying narrative. In other words, Trump wants to get a yes man in there, so that he can use the FBI to his own ends rather than just follow the rule of law.

Yes, when you make up facts, then make up narrative from those fake facts, then connect the dots within your own made-up narrative... the last step is probably the least creative.

So try again, this time at least using known facts as building blocks for your fever dream.

19   joeyjojojunior   2017 May 11, 7:43am

Not sure what hairs you think you are splitting here, but Trump and his ties to Russia are absolutely under investigation. What did Trump know, when did he know it.

"Yes, when you make up facts, then make up narrative from those fake facts"

No made up facts. Comey was fired less than 24 hours after he requested more resources into the investigation of the Trump Administration's ties to Russia.

Do you think that the President asked Comey if he was under investigation? Kelly Anne wouldn't answer that question, because (1) If the President did ask Comey about that, it would be worse than Bill Clinton's tarmac chat and (2) If the President did not ask Comey, we would be forced to believe that Comey offered that up to Trump unsolicited 3 times, which is absolutely unbelievable and (3) If the president made it up, he's acting like a 2 yr old.

Which of these scenarios do you think is most likely? [typical CBOE rant] Or do you just wait until you are told what to say by whatever backward conspiracy related media sources you consume? [/typical CBOE rant]

No, you have been lied to. Show your source please. Zero evidence of Trump/Russia collusion. Zero evidence of Russia/Wikileaks collusion. So.. I think you mean Russia is under investigation, which is a broad, meaningless distinction in this world of mass surveillance. How about you go find some facts and post them here. You are flat wrong about Trump being under investigation.

25   joeyjojojunior   2017 May 11, 8:23am

"Zero evidence of Trump/Russia collusion"

Not zero evidence at all. There was a whole dossier of evidence. Some has been verified, some hasn't. Some question its veracity. But, there is evidence. And the FBI has been working to verify and confirm it, so that's pretty much the definition of an investigation.

Russian ties to the Trump administration and Trump himself is being investigated. Was there collusion? Did Trump and/or his associates make a secret deal with Russia? That is absolutely under investigation.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/03/its-official-the-fbi-is-investigating-trumps-links-to-russia/520134/

“I’ve been authorized by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election,” Comey said in testimony before the House Intelligence Committee. “That includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts.”

Court's dont investigate administrations. They investigate individuals. Please tell us who exactly is being investigated by which authority or authorities? Be specific.

Until you are clear on this, none of your conjecture based on this is relevant.

No, Trump is not under investigation now. AFAIK, Carter Page and Flynn were cleared. Now they want to look at Flynn's associates. In other words, Trump's associates' associates, expanding the circle ever further in the desperation to find some kind of connection, no matter how distant, between Trump current/former team members.

This would be like the Special prosecutor under Clinton looking for money to expand the investigation to the associates of Robert Reich after he was let go.

Comey and McCabe refused to make a Public Statement announcing they closed investigations on the basis of no evidence. Enough is Enough.

Reminder: Comey is an Obama appointee; McCabe via his Wife received money from McAullife during the election and while he was investigating the Clinton Email. THAT would be worthy of an investigation.

"No, Trump is not under investigation now"

You have no idea. All we know is that Comey said on March 20th that the Trump Administration absolutely was under investigation. We've heard nothing since that would indicate the investigation is complete--as a matter of fact, Comey is reported to have asked for MORE resources this week before being fired. So, that would seem to indicate the investigation is very much alive.

37   joeyjojojunior   2017 May 11, 9:45am

"Go back and read what/who they are investigating. Hint: Its not trump or his administration. You are literally making up reasons to support your fantasy"

We don't know who all they are investigating. In fact, they don't know where it will lead at this point. They are investigating the Trump Administration and are letting the evidence take them where it takes them. But, seeing as Trump is part of the Trump Administration, he is pretty clearly part of the investigation.

For the record here's what Comey said (in the article):

"Asked directly whether Trump himself was a target of the investigation, the FBI director demurred"

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/03/its-official-the-fbi-is-investigating-trumps-links-to-russia/520134/?ref=patrick.net

Not sure how you can take that to mean Trump is not part of the investigation.

38   Shaman   2017 May 11, 9:57am

The point is the investigation goes on, despite zero concrete evidence produced so far that ties the Trump administration to Russia. None. After almost a year.
At what point can a baseless assertion with no supporting facts but the opinions of wild-eyed partisan hacks be labeled a straight-up conspiracy theory?

wtf are you talking about. One member of the Trump Administration has already had to resign over his ties to Russia. The Attorney General has had to recuse himself. Other members of the campaign have had serious questions raised about their dealings.

Watergate took almost a year and that was with investigators who were actually trying to find the truth. What's the rush? Don't you want to the truth to come out?
