FBI arrests Tucson man over threats to U.S. Rep. Martha McSally

FBI agents arrested Steve Martan, 58, in connection with three messages left on the congressional office voicemail on May 2 and May 10, according to a criminal complaint filed May 12 in U.S. District Court in Tucson. Martan is a campus monitor at Miles Exploratory Learning Center in the Tucson Unified School District. He was placed on home assignment and told not to come into work as the district investigates the allegations.

The voicemails contained threats to McSally, including that she should "be careful" when she returns to Tucson and that her days "were numbered." He threatened to shoot her in one of the expletive-filled messages.

Violence And Intimidation Against Republicans Are Becoming The New Normal

Violence and intimidation against Republicans are quickly becoming the new normal in an increasingly tense political climate.

In one of the most recent incidents, police in Tennessee charged a woman with felony reckless endangerment on Thursday for allegedly trying to run Republican Congressman David Kustoff off the road after a town hall. The woman, Wendi Wright, was reportedly enraged over Kustoff’s support for the American Health Care Act and screamed at the congressman and his aide, striking his car windows and reaching inside the vehicle.

The same day that Tennessee police charged Wright for reckless endangerment, police in North Dakota escorted an enraged man from another town hall after he became physical with Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer over his support for the GOP Obamacare replacement. “Will the rich benefit from, if the health care is destroyed, do the rich get a tax break? Yes or no?” the man shouted, before shoving cash down the congressman’s collar. “There you go, take it.”

CNN’s Poppy Harlow downplayed the incident, saying the man was “showing his disgust” with Cramer.

The day before that, a Huffington Post article that showed “how to really turn up the heat on elected officials” went viral. The author, Michaelangelo Signorile, called on protesters to harass Republicans at dinner, when they’re out shopping and even at home. Societal norms for the basic levels of decency one should afford political opponents, Signorile argued, no longer apply to liberals.

Political violence has been increasingly common as left-wing organizations have whipped up mobs against Republicans and supporters of the president.

Another conservative rapes a 6-year-old-boy.

If we're just going to assume the political positions of criminals, why not go whole hog?

3   Blurtman   2017 Jun 13, 7:56am

That accounts for record gun sales.

The article doesn't say anything about the politics leanings of the criminal.

Fucking White Male says

That's the whole point. The article in the original post simply labels obvious conservatives as liberals for the purpose of poisoning the well. That's no different than taking a random pedophile article and labeling the pedophile as a conservative to make conservatives guilty by association of pedophile. It's the same exact tactic. The fact that you objected to my mock use of this tactic means that you should object to the use of this tactic in the OP article. Otherwise, you would be a hypocrite.

The tactic of falsely associating a group you want to take down with another group that is doing wrong is old as politics, and no one using it should be respected.

Another fine example of liberal "tolerance":

This is exactly why you need to
1. Know the difference between liberals and conservatives. The left that cancelled this show is conservative.
2. Support liberalism.
3. Oppose conservatism.

Do that and you won't get more "inappropriate" speech cancelled. Continue the bullshit that one tribe of conservatism is liberal and you'll get more of this.

Later - any word on when or if the old Sparrows Site will ever go up for sale or get developed ? Nice property if it wasn't so environmentally screwed up.

It would be an ideal site for yuppie housing, but even if it's cleaned up as much as possible, I doubt that people would ever believe it's possibly to clean it up enough for their dirt eating kids. In so far as commercial uses, I'm thinking that Trump's tariff policy could bring in manufacturers. Its a shame to see such prime real estate go unused. I don't think the site is being used now, except for maybe the Pennwood Power Plant.

Also - is the Baltimore Harbor thing worth a visit ? Kind of looking for next year and haven't been to Baltimore since the 1970s.

Yes, but the Inner Harbor it's what I like to think of as very touristy. The Visitor's Center there is very nice and there are all kinds of boat rides and walking.around I'm not much into the contents of the Pratt and Light Street pavilions, but still walk around them (they are really only good for eating and drinking). Even better is the long walkway that starts on one side of the Inner Harbor and goes all the way to Canton Waterfont Park (several miles). Even better if you happen to come across some sort of festival (which happens pretty frequently). The Science Center there is nice. I like Ft McHenry better, but that's just me since I like history, good parking, and a lack of commercialism. If you haven't been to Baltimore since around 1970, the waterfront area is completely different (and extremely yuppified and devoid of any factories).

Dan do tell us what's different between "left" and "liberals" and why it's not two words for same supporters of the Democratic evil establishment.

I've done that many times already. Just read Leftists and Social Justice Warriors are Conservatives. I make it quite clear what a liberal is, what a conservative is, what the right is, and what the left is. It cannot be made clearer than that.

As a liberal, I disagree with most Democratic Party policies. However, the Republican Party policies are even more evil. So I vote for the lesser of two evils. That doesn't make most Democrats liberals. We have two conservative parties with different tribal cultures. One tribe is worse than the other on most issues, but they are both conservatives at heart.

You suffer from a great problem of false dichotomous. You think there are always only two choices: capitalism or communism, liberalism or conservatism, black or white. You are wrong. Reality is a complex machine with many design points and many degrees of freedom. It's not binary. Stop thinking binary. Stop thinking us vs them. It's the Information Age, not the Stone Age.

Iraq was aiding them. What we did was protect America and make it clear to the world that if you attack us, we'll attack you right back. That was a much needed message.

When did Iraq attack us again?

The American people did, and you've spent the last 8 months here engaging in ad hominem attacks, crying about the results, and in general being a little bitch.

FortWayne says

we are the world peace keepers.

Once more you prove your utter ignorance of American history. Our politicians and generals are not the good guys. They do not act out of benevolence. For the past 40 years America has
- supported brutal dictators in South America
- made assassination attempts
- taught state terrorists how to torture people in facilities like Fort Benning, GA
- destabilized the middle east to secure cheap oil

It would be nice if America did act like the good guy you want to believe it is. It is possible for America to change into that guy, but doing so requires admitting the evil that our politicians and generals have and continue to do, and then stopping that shit.

You cannot act on both greed and benevolence. They are mutually exclusive.

Did the American people really vote him in? I don't know. Now we have not only not winning the popular vote, but also the potential for conspiracy with Russia!

The Trump campaign was very eager to take a meeting with a known foreign government for potential benefit.

Do you really feel like you got a fare election? What would it take for you to feel like even Trump cheated you? Time to ask.

Actually (as Rew says) the majority of the American people voted for a different candidate.

Actually, no one got a majority.

Correct. But the majority of people (who voted) voted for someone other than Trump

No, I'm not wrong. You're just too dim to read and comprehend simple statements like the one I made.
