Feel a sudden but sharp pain? That’s the news that your Chicago property tax bill is shooting up 10 percent this year thanks to City Hall. The Cook County clerk’s office released calculations Tuesday that showed the tax hikes are thanks to police, fire, and teacher pension

It's always a great sensation when your taxes increase without a shred of services or civic improvement to show for it. You're just bailing out civil service numb nuts and politicians.

Adding this to my list of reasons to never live in Chicago.

When government fails and owns you, instead of serving it's people.

Most likely housing just got cheaper in Chicago.

6   RC2006   2017 Jun 14, 1:40pm

CA would do this in a heartbeat if they could for the same reason.

Hence Prop13. More important now than ever.

Wish I worked for the State of California or Illinois. I would have been filthy rich by now. I'm such an idiot.

Make the retirees spend 12 hours a day in one of the free fire zones. The mortality will exceed 10 percent in a year and the taxes can go back to "normal usurious".

Even Illinois's CFO Doesn't Know How Many Bills Are Unpaid

How big is Illinois’s pile of unpaid bills? Even the state’s chief fiscal officer doesn’t know for sure.

The state sold $4.5 billion of bonds on Wednesday to help pay down the estimated $16.6 billion it owes to contractors, health care providers and others who waited to get paid during Illinois’s record-long fight over the budget. But Comptroller Susana Mendoza, a Democrat, says her office doesn’t know the size of that backlog for sure, and she wants that to change.

Under current law, state agencies only have to report to the comptroller once a year -- on Oct. 1 -- the amount of unpaid bills they had by the end of June, making the information already outdated by the time it’s submitted. According to the comptroller’s website, the backlog reached $16.6 billion as of Oct. 24, including an estimated $6.1 billion of unpaid bills with state agencies.

When they are raising property taxes or HOA fees by ridiculous amounts, so much for the security of a 30yr fixed rate.

I owned a condo in the east bay where for two years in a row, the HOA went up 20%, the maximum amount allowed by law. Their reasoning was that surrounding condo complexes had higher HOA dues and therefore it was reasonable to raise it.

I have no idea how she does her job, but I can't fucking stand this lady. Her voice is like the audible form of shit. It's like she grew up on Marlboro's and deep throating.

The average family pays more in taxes than it spends on food, clothing, and shelter combined.

Maui Residents Outraged Over 52% Spike In Pension Contributions

Earlier this year, Maui County residents in the island state of Hawaii were somewhat less than ecstatic to learn that their property taxes were going to increase by approximately $29.7 million for fiscal 2018. According to County Council member statements at the time, the additional funding was needed to help provide better public services for Maui residents.

That said, fast forward just a few months and it looks like a substantial portion of those tax increases won't go to provide better public services for Maui residents at all but rather will be plowed into the state's massively underwater pension fund. As The Maui News points out today, Maui's contributions to the state Employees’ Retirement System will surge 52% over just the next couple of years...and that's if everything goes to plan.

We are fast becoming a country where government employees and their unions are the new dictators. They just take what they want from us, and there's nothing we can do about it.
I propose the citizen demand government employees go on social security like everyone else. Government employees are nothing special. They don't deserve more.
16   HEY YOU   2017 Nov 8, 9:14am

Anyone that wants me to pay any taxes is a REDISTRIBUTION SOCIALIST!

Yup they are so blatant about it. A 300k salary guy who is a village manager getting pension from a 40k a year family. if the 40k a year family loses their job, they may lose their house to fund the 300k a year pension guy. People are frustrated, but hey in IL you dare challenge the public union power and they want to throw you in jail-I mean wtf??

And that $40K family will keep working into their 60's just so the $300K public servant can retire in his 50's and travel the world.
Fucking scum of the earth.

You guys understand that the union doesn't set their own salaries. You should be mad at the school board, police board, fire board, etc. who signs these deals. Don't get mad at the guys for wanting more money--we all do. Get mad at the guys who allow it to happen.

The unions birbe-err campaign contribute- to the people who set the salaries-in a legal way. The guys who allow it to happen mostly are dem politicians.

I doubt that. Look at most school boards and fire boards and police boards. They aren't Dem politicians.

Schoold boards and union boards are there becuase dem politicians let them be there. Why are the dems threatening city officials with jail for the anti union provision. There are a few RINOs that voted and now fled. Thank God for Rauner that was vetoed-by one vote. YOu support that measure??

The pension packages offered by boards can be regulated by the state or the dems can do a constitutional amendment to get rid of that stupid clause they put in-yep mostly dems.

Don't forget blackmail, extort, and threaten. Works, doesn't it?

Who approved these massive payouts? Don't recall anyone asking me, the taxpayer, if it was OK.
Daylight robbery.

The ideal goal is pure vampirism. No services but all the ad lib taxes the corrupt pols can rend from the public carcass.

Hey, that's a great idea. How come I never thought of it?
I always wanted to be rich, hang out with friends and call it work. Take bribes, attend lavish parties, go on fancy vacations at taxpayer expense. And hire hot secretaries that would even make Rin go insane.

Wait a second. I thought you wanted to be poor so you didn't have to pay any taxes? Which is it?
