HELP HELP HELP
Dear Techies on Patnet,
I downloaded Malware on my MacBook Pro. The ads keep popping up taking up a large part of the screen. I also keep getting directed to other web sites.
I downloaded all the ad blockers that Apple has. Only partially worked.
I signed up with McAfee, which blocked some more, but not all.
What can I do? Please help.

Have you tried uninstalling it?
Yes. Did that. Some of the pop ups and redirects still show up.
I believe it started happening after i got the phony pop ups that said my flash player was out of date. :(

No that leaves you open to ABSOLUTE corruption of your cpu. The only way to be sure to completely fix it is to submerge it in water for at least 30 minutes

See if your computer has a restore point from before the incident and revert computer back to that point.

Going to "New private window" eliminates the ads, but i want the crap out of my computer.

Thanks but no need to be sorry. The thread is about ransomware, which is a type of malware. Some of the mentioned software might guard against ransomware too.
"Ransomware hit at least six countries Tuesday, including Ukraine, where it was blamed for a large and coordinated attack on key parts of the nation's infrastructure, from government agencies and electric grids to stores and banks.
The malware has been called "Petya"...it appears to be spreading globally, raising fears it might rival another widespread attack — the WannaCry outbreak that struck in May.

WannaCry was based on exploits stolen from the National Security Agency — including a program called EternalBlue, which exploited a Microsoft vulnerability. Petya reportedly shares some of WannaCry's traits — but while computers that had gotten a security patch were safe from WannaCry, Petya can also infect patched machines.
Petya uses the NSA Eternalblue exploit but also spreads in internal networks with WMIC and PSEXEC. That's why patched systems can get hit.
