Under current projections, the current Japanese population of 127 million will fall by nearly 40 million by 2065.

And it will still be too fucking crowded!

Japan's population freefall continues

You say that as if it were a bad thing.

The population increases four fold over 130 years and no one gives a shit. Then when overcrowding is so severe that people stop having kids, the population drops a minuscule amount and everyone panics because all the Ponzi schemes based on population size will burst. Well, those schemes were mathematically doomed to burst.

Even by the most aggressive estimates, Japan's population won't return to 1900 levels by 2100. It's a damn good thing Japan's population is finally dropping. The rest of the world, including America, needs to follow suit. Overpopulation means a decrease in the quality of life for all, environmental destruction, and strife.

Many Japanese men claim they remain intimidated by sexual activity. The research found that 43 percent of people aged 18 to 34 are virgins.

According to the research, many young Japanese people are instead turning to pornography to fulfill their sexual desires, amid less social pressure to marry and financial concerns.

Gynocentrism has consequences.

The fertility crisis has also led to serious problems within the Japanese economy...

Calling something a crisis doesn't make it a crisis.

...such as labor shortages within the country’s aging population.

Yeah, it's always a problem when labor gains bargaining power and wages go up. Must find some way to suppress wages. You can't have the unemployment rate at only 3.1%. That means only about four million Japanese are unemployed. Not enough people desperate for jobs. The workers might insist on getting 70% of their wealth production instead of 50%.

Maybe Japan should follow America's lead and just hire cheap ass labor from India and China. Hell China is right next to Japan. They could outsource without time zone lag and all the communication problems that come with that.

Politicians have also considered loosening the country’s notoriously strict immigration laws in hope that foreigners might stimulate sexual activity.

Oh yes, follow Europe's lead and import gangs of raping Muslim men to impregnate all the native women. I'm sure nothing will go wrong with that plan. You know, you could save a few decades and just turn over all your land to the Arabs. Same effect.

In 2016, the United States also reached its lowest ever fertility rate, with just 62 births per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44, down one percent from 2015. However, the American population is actually increasing due to rapidly growing levels of immigration.

So now the world is composed of poor breeder nations and rich sterile nations. The poor will inherit the Earth, and make the whole world poor. There will be evolutionary pressure to pop out as many kids as you can without caring for them. The population will be taken over by breeders. The human race will evolve into rats.

The solution, of course, if for develop nations to cap net immigration to zero and allow their populations to fall. This will reduce the need for social services, the persistence of intergenerational poverty, the pollution generated by society, war, crime, and the rich-poor gap. But on the downside, no more population-based Ponzi schemes. Oh, no!

I never understood why people are so stupid as to think that uncontrolled population surges can go on forever and are always a good thing. Oh wait, capitalism. Keep the peasants reproducing so they have no bargaining power and wages are suppressed. Keep this up until robots replace all human labor and you can just kill off all the peasants. The actual task of killing off all the peasants is a job for future Ted and Marshall.

I visited Japan multiple times in my career when I was working with Goldman Sachs CFS team, so unlike some people who are just "ranting" blindly, I have a bit of insight into why Japan's population has been stagnating for so many years.

The reason they aren't having children is because for most young people (18-35) it's far too expensive to get married, purchase a home, or even think about supporting a family. Back when I was in Japan, I believe the average wage in Tokyo was 2,800,000 JY annually. That I believe back then equated to around $25,000 to $27,000. The average home, say in Edogawa, probably cost around $250,000 in those days. So you go ahead and do the numbers to see how it would work.

You see managers, and mid-level execs not having much problems finding a woman, having sex, and eventually having children. For them, the economic cost were bearable. Not for your average salary man in Japan.

The work culture is also extremely oppressive and really destroys the libido, and dating culture. People often worked 12 hours or more per day at the company we were consulting for, and financing. It's not because they were working hard to hit some deadline which is usually the excuse for the tech pawns in Silicon Valley, but it's because of cultural stigmas. I saw people who were often not very skilled working long hours, but because they put in those hours, they would get praised by their managers. I would think inside my head, "But what is he actually accomplishing?" That doesn't matter as much in a Japanese company. Displays of loyalty, and "effort" are very much valued, especially at small-mid sized companies. This is a cultural barrier to growth in my opinion.

After work these salary guys would jump for joy to hang out with... other dudes. None of them went home, freshened up, and went to clubs to hit on ladies. They went straight to the street yakatori bars, ate, and drank, then went home past midnight to get ready to do it all over again 6-7 days a week.

I honestly don't know how you fix the problem. I mean I do, but nothing that would have any chance of succeeding in Japan's current cultural climate.

My wife had a similar experience working for Toyota in Michigan. Japanese employees would work long hours and print vast quantities of documents, but not really accomplish much. On the other hand, they were exposed to the American lifestyle and frequently "corrupted" by the idea of shorter hours and having fun in life. This made them not want to go back.

In any case, Japan could do with some reduction in population. Not the end of the world. At least they have been smart with their immigration policy and will not end up as a despised minority in their own country even if they have a smaller population.
