No exact location for the plant has been chosen — but the area of southeast Wisconsin between Milwaukee and Chicago is under consideration, according to a source.

A source said that seven states were considered for the expansion, but Wisconsin appears to be a preliminary winner, and Ohio is a contender. About 10,000 jobs could be created.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Foxconn may be eyeing a new U.S. plant for display panels.

Foxconn is also known as Hon Hai Precision, a longtime supplier to Apple and other electronics companies that has come under scrutiny in the past over labor practices in China. It is unclear if Apple is involved in Wednesday's announcement.

The announcement would come on the heels of a Wall Street Journal interview with Trump, where he said he had spoken to Apple CEO Tim Cook about three U.S. factories. Apple has yet to comment on Trump's remarks. Cook told Jim Cramer on CNBC's "Mad Money" in May it would start a $1 billion fund to promote advanced manufacturing jobs in the United States.

With its wide network of developers, Apple has already created two million jobs in the United States, according to Cook. Apple supplier Corning told CNBC last week that it would "immediately" invest $500 million and create 1,000 new jobs in the United States, but those jobs are related to medical devices.

Scott Walker was reported to say "If Foxconn is going to be driving employees to suicide, they are going to be Wisconsonites, God Dam It! And where's my US/Canada wall? I want a fucking wall!!!"

believe it and hearsay details when it,s announced, just like Carrier "saved jobs" now in Mexico from Indiana, even in wake of tax subsidies

Trump is all bullshit 24/7/365

Concerns are increasing among lawmakers and others in Wisconsin over what incentives the state may offer to become the first U.S. home of Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn.

---------

Eliminate the minimum wage so workers can compete with the Chinese labor, just as the Founding Fathers intended!!

4   AllTruth   2017 Jul 27, 7:18am

Wisconsin (taxpayers) and/or the Fed Gov't (taxpayers) will be tax-subsidizing this

"if it's built facility"

To the tune of

$240,000 to $307,000 per job

For mainly assembly line or station jobs

Having median salary estimated to be $17 per hour

BRILLIANT!

These types of projects are the worst type of corporate welfare.

Foxconn gets free labor for nearly 10 years and taxpayers pay for it and much more.

At least Carrier in Indiana ONLY got 7 to 13 million from taxpayers to safe 700 to 900 jobs that NOW ENDED UP IN MEXICO ANYWAYS.

MAGA&WIN TILL IT HURTS!!!

Maybe 10,000 jobs to build the factory. But what happens after that? It will be all robots. An engineer and a couple of security guards may be the only humans.

Yeah, it's amazing what a $3 billion dollar gift to a company will buy.

http://money.cnn.com/2017/09/18/news/scott-walker-signs-foxconn-deal/index.html "That means the state will pay between $15,000 and $19,000 dollars per job per year, assuming 13,000 positions are actually created."

So, companies are willing to hire Americans if the American tax payer pays for their salaries. How is this different from having more government workers? The government might as well be the official employer. At least that way the American people also own the profits from the factory.

This deal is the opposite of free markets. It's socialism.

Foxconn is an evil corporation and Scott Walker is a dipshit. Still, dipshits often get votes for getting results, even when they give away the farm for a few pigs.

Huge Obama subsidies in the form of half a billion dollars in loan guarantees for a Solar Company that ended up bankrupt mere months after receipt- YAY!
Huge Obama and California subsidies for Tesla - YAY!
Huge Obama and Dem Congress subsidies and bailouts for Auto Manufacturers, to be used as they wish, no requirement to keep open US Factories - YAY
Some Subsidies to get one of the world's largest electronics plants open in Wisconsin, a proven business that makes money with actual demand - NOOOOO!

Wow, you really debunked all that. Apparently Chrysler and GM didn't get huge bailouts they weren't required to spend in the USA and everything else under Obama.

And the money wasn't paid back, either, even according to Left biased fact checkers.

Short memory bob. Because I think everyone still remembers all those idiotic blunders and subsidies into "green" that just did not pencil out.

From the who didn't see this coming department....

January 18th - Foxconn falls short of first job-creation hurdle but reiterates ultimate employment pledge.

Foxconn Technology Group had 178 full-time Wisconsin employees in 2018 — 82 jobs short of the minimum required for the company to immediately claim state job-creation tax credits.

The electronics manufacturer, however, can still earn credits for the 2018 employment by making up for the job-creation shortfall in future years of its long-term contract with the state.

Foxconn ultimately could receive $1.5 billion in job credits as part of an overall public subsidy package totaling about $4 billion.

In a letter to state officials the company released Friday, Foxconn reiterated its pledge to create 13,000 Wisconsin jobs tied to the massive factory and research complex it has begun building in Mount Pleasant.

At the same time, the company said it had changed the timing of its hiring plans.

"While we remain committed to creating 13,000 jobs in Wisconsin, we have adjusted our recruitment and hiring timeline," Foxconn executive Louis Woo said in the letter sent to Mark Hogan, secretary and CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., and shared with Gov. Tony Evers. "As a company with operations around the world, we need to have the agility to adapt to a range of factors including global economic conditions.

More from the who didn't see this coming department....

January 30th - Reuters Exclusive: Foxconn reconsidering plans to make LCD panels at Wisconsin plant

(Reuters) - Foxconn Technology Group is reconsidering plans to make advanced liquid crystal display panels at a $10 billion Wisconsin campus, and said it intends to hire mostly engineers and researchers rather than the manufacturing workforce the project originally promised.

Now, those plans may be scaled back or even shelved, Louis Woo, special assistant to Foxconn Chief Executive Terry Gou, told Reuters. He said the company was still evaluating options for Wisconsin, but cited the steep cost of making advanced TV screens in the United States, where labor expenses are comparatively high.

“In terms of TV, we have no place in the U.S.,” he said in an interview. “We can’t compete.”

When it comes to manufacturing advanced screens for TVs, he added: “If a certain size of display has more supply, whether from China or Japan or Taiwan, we have to change, too.”

Rather than a focus on LCD manufacturing, Foxconn wants to create a “technology hub” in Wisconsin that would largely consist of research facilities along with packaging and assembly operations, Woo said. It would also produce specialized tech products for industrial, healthcare, and professional applications, he added.

“In Wisconsin we’re not building a factory. You can’t use a factory to view our Wisconsin investment,” Woo said.

Woo, in the interview, said about three-quarters of Foxconn’s eventual jobs will be in R&D and design - what he described as “knowledge” positions - rather than blue-collar manufacturing jobs. Foxconn is formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.

Rather than manufacturing LCD panels in the United States, Woo said it would be more profitable to make them in greater China and Japan, ship them to Mexico for final assembly, and import the finished product to the United States.
