Marianne Le Pen is not yet 50. She might still become president of France next election.
Holland was very unpopular leading the policy mandated by the EU: budget cuts for the obese French administration, and liberal reforms in the ultra-regulated private sector.
(In the case of France I would say these are totally appropriate economic policies, even if I disagree on immigration).
Macron somehow managed to present himself as 'change' or the candidate 'anti-system' in the election, arguing he was outside the 2 main political parties.
Yet it was always obvious he represented the status quo, and would do exactly the same as Holland.
Macron was always a trick the establishment played: defeat the extremes by putting forward a fresh face in the center, that would get votes from both left and right.
Now, bizarrely, people are waking up and facing the truth.
France failing to elect Le Pen was a surprise.
Essentially said "rape me harder" with the choice they went with. So strange.

Nay, her name isn't French enough.

Only if the French in France are replaced with some more reasonable people.
Francois Fillon was a more popular candidate, but got sidelined due to a nepotism investigation now called the "Fillon affair." I can understand the French not wanting to pay allegedly $1 million to Fillon's family for no-show or no-work jobs, but the decision may end up seeming penny-wise and pound-foolish as they keep paying more for Islam.
Bad boy bad boy go to stand in the corner like you teacher/mama/wife told you to.
France has a huge problem. Muslims are now anywhere from 12-15 percent of the population and their political power is growing stronger by the day as globalist EU overlords use Islam as a sword against nationalism.
The problem with this strategy is that it's a double edged sword and Islam is an ally of no one. Le Pen was the last hope of France and electing her would have stopped the unmitigated Islamic rape and take over of France due to her strong nationalistic platform and immigration stance.
But she didn't even come close and Obama and other globalist made sure of that (funny how the leftist on this forum never say anything about Obama campaigning for Macron overseas). By the next election, the French left and Islam will vote another leftist masquerading as a "centrist" candidate and continue the globalist agenda in France; more young male Muslim immigration, more taxing of the rich, more entitlement program spending, and a continually stagnating economy (France has hasn't sniffed 2% annual GDP growth since the late 90s).
It's over for France. A dying, aging nation with a weak economy and a complete surrender to the globalist agenda and now infected permanently by Islam. No going back, no Trump type backlash against the establishment. Its projected based on demographics and birth rates that France will be 35-40% Muslim by the turn of the century. France lost, globalist won.

That is a distinct possibility.
Nowadays, I don't even want to eat Macaron anymore.
As those who voted for the pretty boy realize he just a better looking Hollande, another neoliberal . Macron had experienced the most rapid drop off in public support of any incoming French President will the sole exception of Chirac in 1995.
