In all honesty, the only thing that will make the right feel different about background checks and closing gun show loopholes is if the shooting victims are from the right instead of the left.

This shit happens all the time, but because it's not the Tea Party's kids being shot, they don't care. However, the conservative right does care about any issue as soon as it affects them personally. This is why Dick Cheney supports gay rights -- he has a lesbian daughter. This is why the Palin family started saying that the right to choose is a private decision after their daughter got pregnant out of wedlock. This is why George and Barbara Bush supported federally funded programs for special needs children after having George W.
The conservative right in a nutshell: someone else's problem, fuck it; my problem, omg something must be done!
