[This article is part of a package covering Louisville’s reaction to Charlottesville. Check out the other pieces, including Ricky Jones’ column “Black People Should Arm Themselves Now!” and Erica Rucker’s “America… where are you going?”]

Some things I’m thinking about that should change (in that Southern, black grandmama voice):

1. White people, if you don’t have any descendants, will your property to a black or brown family. Preferably one that lives in generational poverty.

2. White people, if you’re inheriting property you intend to sell upon acceptance, give it to a black or brown family. You’re bound to make that money in some other white privileged way.

3. If you are a developer or realty owner of multi-family housing, build a sustainable complex in a black or brown blighted neighborhood and let black and brown people live in it for free.

4. White people, if you can afford to downsize, give up the home you own to a black or brown family. Preferably a family from generational poverty.

5. White people, if any of the people you intend to leave your property to are racists assholes, change the will, and will your property to a black or brown family. Preferably a family from generational poverty.

6. White people, re-budget your monthly so you can donate to black funds for land purchasing.

7. White people, especially white women (because this is yaw specialty — Nosey Jenny and Meddling Kathy), get a racist fired. Yaw know what the fuck they be saying. You are complicit when you ignore them. Get your boss fired cause they racist too.

8. Backing up No. 7, this should be easy but all those sheetless Klan, Nazi’s and Other lil’ dick-white men will all be returning to work. Get they ass fired. Call the police even: they look suspicious.

9. OK, backing up No. 8, if any white person at your work, or as you enter in spaces and you overhear a white person praising the actions from yesterday, first, get a pic. Get their name and more info. Hell, find out where they work — Get Them Fired. But certainly address them, and, if you need to, you got hands: use them.

10. Commit to two things: Fighting white supremacy where and how you can (this doesn’t mean taking up knitting, unless you’re making scarves for black and brown kids in need), and funding black and brown people and their work.

Reads like some kind of a joke.

Totally not at all contributing to racial divisiveness. And, all White people are rich who leave lots of property to their heirs. Just look at rural West Virginia or Arkansas

I think the real sad joke is that that's how those people actually think.

4   lostand confused   2017 Aug 20, 8:12pm

How sad -Martin Luther King dreamed of a day when people judge by character and not color. Today's lefties still judge by color.

Should some white trailer park person leave his inheritance to oprah Winfrey or the Obamas???

5   steverbeaver   2017 Aug 20, 8:28pm

I bet there are a few baizuos who will do what is being asked... really though, at what point will people like this start taking responsibility for their lives and honestly earn their way.

They're going for the moon, huh.

A more effective organization might just start trying to change how people see the black experience in the US today. Half of Trump voters already think that blacks have unfair advantage. Those people are not going to want to give an inch, because they are fighting to take back ground.

Exactly. Every single point she made presumed that white people are wealthy and actively keeping down black people, who she assumes are mostly generationally poor.
Lots of people are from poor families. Lots of familys spend a generation or two poor. But if your family is always and will always be poor, maybe there's something wrong with your family culture which is contributing to your wretched state? Such cultural defects will make you poor again no matter what you are given.
If given a house, you'll mortgage it and buy a new motor home and a Lexus and then fall behind on payments until you lose the house. Ten years later, you're living in the aging motor home and driving a beat-up old Lexus. In five more years you're broke ass poor just as before.

If a black person is poor, that means it's time for them to get to work to change that condition. Not try to get society to guilt a successful white person into giving them free shit which they will then squander.

A couple of generations ago was the civil rights movement. Prior to that, blacks were fighting economically with both hands tied behind their backs. Currently, the deck is still stacked against them to some extent. IMO, the solution is to honestly talk about black and white experiences in this country, and be open to the idea that blacks still have it harder in many ways. One small example is that there is discrimination against people with black names on otherwise equivalent resumes. I agree with you that the solution is not to just give someone a house, but there are more sane ideas.
The problem is that we are still fighting as a country about whether blacks have it worse or if we are in a truly egalitarian society with equal opportunity and that blacks are on average inferior when measured by the skills and desire it takes to make money. Individuals tend to give themselves too much credit for their successes and blame others to much for their failures, regardless of race. But that trait makes it hard for us to agree on the most basic part of the issue at hand.

Both black individuals and white individuals get discriminated against here are there in our society at times based on race. People have diversity targets, and those lead to discrimination at times. OTOH, there are several studies that show that black names on resumes lower callbacks and 'whitening' of resumes increases callbacks. I did see a study where the names didn't make a difference, but the black names that they used were Chloe Washington and Ryan Jefferson. Those are not names I'd associate with black people. In terms of impact on society, I'd take those studies over anecdotal evidence for hiring in stem positions at one University.

15   Ceffer   2017 Aug 21, 10:30am

It's not about the perception, it's about the shakedown.

16   Shaman   2017 Aug 21, 11:07am

Armenians get a bad rap. They're thought of as criminals and gangsters, fraudsters and con artists.
And that's because there's a high incidence of those things in every Armenian community in the USA.
So they get a bad rap as a bunch of untrustworthy people.
Is this fair?
Is it only fair because they're sort of white?
Is it then fair or unfair when blacks get tarred with the brush their high crime incidence promotes?
I think it's unfair... unfair on the individual level. On the group level it's fair. But it really sucks for black individuals who aren't that way to be automatically lumped in with their hoodlum thuggish peers. Especially since most black people in the USA are law-abiding citizens.

If blacks would just stop holding back other blacks, we could stop having to talk about their economic status as this incurable problem. But instead they blame all their troubles on the police and "racist whites" when the worst discrimination they'll ever experience is from non-whites.

at one University

Many if not most universities, I travel a lot and see this nearly everywhere. I also posted a recent ad about a faculty position that would be filled only by minorities. If there was an ad about "white-only" position, riots would ensue followed by lawsuits against the school.

https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2015/12/16/job-ad-u-louisville-raises-questions-about-considering-race-faculty-hires.?ref=patrick.net
The Department of Physics and Astronomy announces a tenure-track assistant professor position that will be filled by an African-American, Hispanic American or a Native American Indian [sic].”

From what I see, at BS or higher level there is discrimination of whites and Asians. Inquiring minds also may want to look at university admission test scores with respect to race.

18   Ceffer   2017 Aug 21, 11:14am

That's nothing. Just think of the medical faculty positions now where they won't consider you if you don't show up in a loincloth, feathered head dress with shrunken heads, and thumping a magic staff up and down.

Hundreds of people working in the military, government and education are on a list of almost 10,000 people who spent $7.3 million buying phony and counterfeit high school and college degrees from a Spokane diploma mill. National Security Agency employees David W. Barden and Barry A. Hester both bought degrees. Hester, who was a computer Web trainer and designer for the NSA with top-secret clearance, paid $1,187 for an information systems and technology degree, the list shows.

A couple of generations ago was the civil rights movement

In the most racist era outside of the 19th century, 1900-1960, black families were stable with two parent families the norm, but they still lived under Jim Crow. MLK was a propnent of integration and assimilation into the broader society, "white" if you will, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was the result--of course it didn't instantly eradicate racism but it was a start. However, the meltdowns of the sexual revolution and drug cultures of the late 60's intervened. Young blacks under the influence of such characters as Stokely Carmichael, H. Rap Brown, Huey Newton and the Black Panthers, who hated MLK and all he stood for, opted instead for the black thug, ghetto culture of drugs, out-of-wedlock births, sloth, victimology and general slovenliness that proved generational and which we see to this day. It's interesting but sad how the violence of exactly 50 years ago mirrors so perfectly that of today and from so many of the same sources. The identity politics, societal divisions and divisiveness we experience today had their beginnings in those riots and disruptions of 50 years ago despite what should have been great progress. Welfare spending exploded between 1970 and 1980, yet to what good effect?

Yep - one of the biggest reasons for poverty (and income inequality) in the black community is the sky high rate of out of wedlock birth rates.

There is no amount of government welfare, education system or even reparations scheme that can fix a broken society where nearly 80% of the children are born with no fathers in their lives. Being a single parent is almost a guarantee of a life of poverty and government reliance.

If you want to stay out of poverty in America:

1) Finish High School
2) Don't have kids until you are married
3) Stay married

And we have the Democrat political party that does their very best to undermine #2 and #3, cynically trying to capture voting groups reliant on government - and we scratch our heads when we see some communities mired in generational poverty.

Just imagine the number of Asians on H1Bs with Fake Degrees. Indistinguishable from the real ones, as they're fabricated by people who work inside those institutions and use the same paper, stamps, ink, etc. as "real diplomas". They may even add students into the system in case an employer or H-1B Mill firm even bothers to check.

And in the white community too, where it's over 40%. In Jim Crow 1960, black out-of-wedlock births were low double digits, slightly higher than whites. If someone then had predicted what we have today, they would have been thought irrational.

Race almost doesn't matter in everyday's job discriminations. It's enough to be socially awkward, ugly and/or not easily likable for any reason to get discriminated against. That is the real truth. Countless times I have seen socially awkward people let go that were better at their jobs than their replacements, the hotter chick, the more likable frat buddy getting hired rather than the person suited better for the particular job but inferior in likability. You can be a jolly, athletic and likable black dude with inferior skills (but better teeth or BO) and you will land a job anytime over the socially awkward white nerd nobody wants to work with or no chick already working at the company can imagine to sleep with. That's why it's better to stay clear from people management positions, it's mostly all about personality/looks and the poor shlobs that never land it actually get to you after a while when you start feeling sorry for them and you may blurt out "illegal" advice such as "hit the gym for 6 months" or "shower daily, use soap and deodorant", "come with brushed teeth", "make yourself likable to the gals as you will be working with them" and it may backfire due to the climate of extreme political correctness ;)

If we stopped illegals from coming here, there would be ample reason to end welfare and people would be forced to work. Make drugs legalized or tolerated and most criminal income is cut as well. Plenty of jobs to go around.
