Legislators think they can ease the housing shortage by driving up the cost of construction. That defies common sense. But this is not about good policy; this is about labor’s tight political grip on the state Capitol. It’s unfortunate because the intent of the legislation, SB 35 introduced by Sen. Scott Wiener,

Affordable housing with Liberals sounds more like Constituent storage.

All they have built in the last 9 years, is Government subsidized mostly free housing or habitat for Humanity type of houses.

People want to buy a house, they don't want to have to ride the bus through the Libby Framework to get a free house.

Those with mortgages are dependent.
Cash or sleep on the streets.

I deal with this insanity every day in the public works water industry. Just one of the MANY retarded policies of California.

It is bad enough that union pensions are bankrupting cities. It is criminal that they force bankrupt cities like Stockton to pay private contractors union wages doubling the cost of public works projects. And we wonder why California's infrastructure ranks so poorly.

Check out these obscene wages for general laborers. I've got highschool educated temp employees earning 6 figures when they work on public works projects.

How do we get rid of stupid politicians that make things worse for us? Voting does not seem to help.

Trade Unions aren't the problem. The decade of red tape to built a residential tower, Anti-Density Laws by current landlords who want to keep supply low and their rentals high, are far more of a problem.

A Californian Developer once told me the Sierra Club and others are fundamentally controlled by wealthy landlords who use it to find excuses to stop residential construction.

The key problem with affordable housing is getting approval to start building, not the cost of building them.

+1. The fundamental reason housing is so expensive is the cost of buildable land (in the places where people want to live)
