Mikie Larson works as a tutor outside Rockford. Her family can’t take it anymore.

“My husband and I grew up in Illinois, went to college in Illinois, got married in Illinois and raised four kids in Illinois,” she said.

“The income tax hike for us was the last straw.”

The Larsons plan to list their home for sale in the fall and move out of state.

Did you forget that IL has a Republican Governor and has had more Rs than Dems for the last 30 years?

That is extremely disengenous of you. Gov Rauner vetoed it and the dems passed it any way by peeling off a few moderate repubs to veto proof the vote. I mean come on-I guess your pensions keep flowing.
Now having said that, i think this gov is a tool and ineffective-IL needs a SCott walker or like Michigan abolish all pensions for new workers. Then pass a constitutional amendment to deal with current workers pensions. Anyone making more than social security max in pension should be on the chopping block.

No more disingenuous than blaming Obama for the national debt.

lol about you trying to make this about me though. I can assure you that I don't have a pension.

It is you who stated IL has more repubs than dems. That is just false maybe Governors.

Obama came in with a 60 senate and congressional majority and had that for 2 years. he frittered it away by implementing the healthcare plan proposed by the heritage foundation. That is stupidity of the highest order and he never took any action.

In my same post, I said this governor is a tool. Why do you always try and hide the dems utter stupidity?? This Governor is dumb -Scott walker is good.

Huh. the KY conservative Governor is looking at changing the pension to 401k to help prevent a collapse in the future. What has that got to do with liberals and pensions??

Of course it was in reference to Governors.

It was meant to point out to Ft. Wayne that even a solid Red state like KY has pension problems so that maybe he'd reconsider his faulty reasoning.

On the current Governor of IL-yup the repub one-what does he do? Does anyone see him out campaigning, fighting the dems. This bill was extremely unpopular, he could have stuck gold if he rallied up the troops against that evil madigan, but apart from vetoing it, what exactly did he do.

Dems and taxes -sigh.

Nope see, they don't have a full blown problem like IL does. Even though they don't , they are already looking at a solution to fix it and prevent KY from becoming an IL. That is what you expect a politician to do.

meanwhile with the highest property taxes in the antion, increases their income tax too. I at least like CA-your property tax is fixed, income tax you pay only when yo have income. Not like horrendous property taxes that cna jump 10-15-20% ina year and you have to pay even if you get cancer and lose your job.
12   joeyjojojunior   2017 Sep 17, 7:23pm

I'm certainly not defending IL property tax rates as some areas are completely ridiculous. But, the state portion of property tax in IL is not the nation's highest. It's in the top ten, but TX, NE, WI, NJ, NH are all higher.

Local taxes are what kill IL residents.
13   lostand confused   2017 Sep 17, 7:28pm

It does not matter to the person who is paying it. That IL are paying the highest taxes is what they know when they open their wallets.

Now if the state increased the income taxes and in turn decided to say freeze all pensions for new hires, modify the constitution to work on pensions etc etc, then people would support. I would be ok-tough situation they are trying. But nothing happened-hike income taxes, property taxes through the roof, wtf??? What are you doing and then that piece of trash madigan has a firm that lobbies and reduces proeprty taxes for big corporations and such-while he is the all powerful speaker. Why is he not in jail -oh yeah his daughter is the Attorney general.

Would you pay CA tax levels to live in IL?

I didn't think so!
16   HEY YOU   2017 Sep 17, 8:02pm

Any Illinois Republican that is or will be on a state pension is a SOCIALIST!
Their pension was paid for hard by working Republican tax payers that can't get the same benefits.

I'm not sure i'm willing to pay Ca taxes levels just to live in Ca. Florida is a much better choice.

that's the problem with over taxing the citizens of any state. They are free to vote with their feet.
Several of my college friends have already moved out of that state for good, precisely for this reason.
IL has net emigration, and it's escalating. Anyone with a job or profession that's mobile isn't sticking around. Come for the high taxes, stay for the shitty weather? It is to laugh.
