How Puerto Rico Is Becoming Trump's Katrina. George W. Bush ate cake while New Orleans drowned – now Trump is making him seem statesmanlike by comparison.

Under President Trump, Puerto Rico is suffering federal neglect that recalls the worst of George W. Bush's management after Hurricane Katrina inundated New Orleans more than a decade ago.

As the territory – home to 3.4 million U.S. citizens, roughly the same population as Iowa – has been plunged into a humanitarian crisis in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, the president of the United States has been tweeting about NFL protests, "Little Rocket Man" and his beef with John McCain. When it finally occurred to Trump to tweet about Puerto Rico Monday night, the president's thoughts were with the Wall Street banks who are still owed money from the territory, which declared a form of bankruptcy in May.

Amid outcry about the botched federal relief response on Tuesday, Trump blamed the Caribbean island being too far away: "This is an island sitting in the middle of an ocean. It's a big ocean," Trump said. "It's a very big ocean." Unaccountably, the Navy hospital and disaster-relief ship Comfort remains docked in Virginia. Nonetheless Trump insisted, "We're doing a really good job!"

The Dotard must have confused Puerto Rico with North Korea etc. again and was planning a preemptive strike instead of aid...

"If your country is a full of brown people, that’s our new job in the world bombing brown people. Iraq, Panama, Grenada, Libya you’ve got some brown people in your country, tell them to watch the fuck out or we’ll God damn bomb them."

PR is less than 500 miles from Miami for christ sakes. We managed to supply the city of berlin, which was more people than live in PR, with everything including fuel for the winter for almost a year in 1948. This was using prop planes with 1/10 the payload of a modern jet. It's about the same distance from Reine-maine to Templhof as from Miami to PR. Homestead air base is right next to Miami, flights out would be no problem at all. Fema manged to put more than a million tones of supplies into homestead after hurricane wilma.

Wonder if the fact they can't vote while living in Puerto Rico has anything to do with it ? Same with the other territories.

Any Trump branded properties on the Island ?

Anyone want to go for the Puerto Ricans don't pay tax thing so screw'em ?

Unequal treatment of Puerto Rico under federal law has frequently been justified on the grounds that Puerto Ricans do not pay federal income tax on Puerto Rican based income. As we’ve stated in previous posts, this argument becomes unconvincing when half of all U.S. citizens have no federal income tax obligations.

But there is another reason to question the unfairness—and often total exclusion—of Puerto Rico’s treatment in federal laws: it turns out that Puerto Ricans are contributors to our nation’s bottom line.

In 2011, Puerto Ricans contributed $3.3 billion to the United States Treasury, approximately as much as Vermont. In past years, Puerto Rico’s liability has exceeded Vermont’s. In 2010, for example, Vermont’s tax liability was only $3.2 billion, while Puerto Rico’s was nearly $3.6 billion.

Puerto Ricans are required to pay federal income taxes on income from federal sources outside of Puerto Rico; otherwise they are exempt from federal income taxes. The wages of Puerto Rican federal judges and other federal workers is fully taxable, for example, as is investment income from U.S. sources, such as dividends from investments of companies located in the fifty states.

Hey prune juice - are you sure the response has been botched? Or, as always, are you simply virtue signaling your ass off?

"are you sure the response has been botched"

Ironman ! How the hell are you ? Long time no trolling - you old rascal you.

Doing just fine with the bowel movements - thanks again ever so much for asking and your concern . Bless your little old heart !

The response - I'd say it's botched yuuggeely ! It one big beautiful yuuggee botch job and no one can do a both job like Donnie Dotard. He's going to make Dubya look like a second class botcher.

If he keeps this up, he may be able to toss in Irma and Harvey participants as well since they seem to be totally off the radar now as well but I bet there's a beehive of activity near Mar-a-Lago and the immediate area.

Hey there - what do you think the odds are he may be a little slow on the switch with the response because the majority of the victims aren't white ? You know in the style of Dubya ?

Just enough aid coming in to show something's happening but not enough to make a difference but he is traveling there next week for a photo op, wonder what kind of food he will be handing out ? Good chance as well for Hurricane Barbie to show off a new outfit to the locals.

Hey, why aren't these US Citizen Olympic Athletes marching under the US Flag?

Oh, that's right. When they don't need money quickly, they're too good to be Americans. They're sure to be Americans when they need money though.

That's interesting. Territories are American soil and should be waving the US Flag. Since when do Americans now march under their territory's flag at the Olympics? Where's Guam? How about States. Anybody see the NY and California athletes under their state flag at the Ceremonies?

Only proud Americans when they need money. Otherwise they're "Puerto Ricans"

No, they want the money like they're Americans but not to be associated with America for everything else.

"They get special treatment because Brown, not evil Whites, and (Spanish) Colonialism, etc. etc. - Say it!"

Again I ask you, why this US Territory of alleged "Citizens" marches under their own flag at the Olympics, and not with other Americans under the US Flag.

Should have heard the retards on NPR this morning. First they said, we want to send Back up genarators but there's no where to send it to once they get there.
Then they said, how people don't have generators and wont do them any good because they don't have gas, then they said it costs $45 a day to run them.
Then they started bitching at Trump because he hasn't single handedly solved all of the problems they realized themselves.
Those Cunts are in such a tussy, they Stammer while they dream and imagine more shit to bitch about and blame Trump for.
I swear I could start a hilarious YouTube channel listening to NPR and calling them out on their Shit.
Funny shit!

Geeze, you mean that data and stuff I posted earlier today concerning tax revenue etc. to the Federal Government is more fake news or just alternative facts?

Can you and Donnie Dotard move past symbols and start talking about the problem which is no aid assistance...

@TPB - should Obama have been in office - you would have buried this forum in attacks.

Like I said Trump will be measured by what he signs not what Maxine Waters and that Saturday Night live reject Al Franken says about him.

Sorry that's not how it works. Obama had ample time to do the right thing, he signed it and licked the Rothchild's balls with your tongue time and time again.
Obama was a failure, of which if Trump follows suit I wont be afraid to call him out for. Unlike you politically blind idiot retards.

Send him some shit to sign and quit obstructing. If you Clowns really want to get rid of Trump let him do what he said would do.
you all keep obstructing and really expect us to hate "HIM" for it. You fuckers are more than beyond Insane for that train of logic.
We follow Trump like this at this state all the way through his second Term. I gauranfuckingTee all of you Shitbirds THAT!

Get the fuck out of the way and let the man fuck up. Is your only shot. Iwog panicking and having a stupid heart attack every time I post something about Trump.
It's going to change us Patriots resolve.

The truth of the matter is that Puerto Ricans are officially ... 2nd class citizens. As a territory, they can only send an observer to Congress. They have no voting rights in either the House of Rep or the Senate. Then, as ordinary folks, they cannot directly elect the president via the Electoral College.

What you have is a situation where if a Puerto Rican wants to be a 1st class citizen, s/he needs to first move to let's say Miami or New York, establish domicile and then, vote in the general elections for that state. And of course, at that point, they're minorities and no longer a majority as in their home island.

In a sense, despite Trump's general ignorance, he does have a bit of the national vibe where in fact, many ppl do look down upon Puerto Ricans, sans let's say Jennifer Lopez, treating 'em as if they don't belong on the continent. I grew up near Boston and have always heard disparaging remarks about 'em, despite the fact that I didn't meet one rude Puerto Rican.

In contrast, I'd never heard of a single slight on Armenians, my whole life in New England. They were the model "white" ethnic minority.

You are being generous Rin. The "base" wouldn't rate them any higher than a 4 or 5 after all the other minorities are factored in and besides "aid" is only for American Citizens, not some obscure brown skinned people in the tropics they only get to see when the cruise ship docks.

That's nice.

So is Donald Trump actually going to DO ANYTHING or just spend all day on twitter, go on vacation, and play golf?

I mean shouldn't he be in the congressional offices making deals? Proposing plans? Letting other Republicans suck his balls? All he has done lately is accept the Ryan "destroy the country" tax plan and shill for it on TV. Oh yeah, he also supported the wrong candidate for congress and had a temper tantrum and blamed everyone else for making the wrong endorsement. He did accomplish that.........

Honestly on just a qualitative level and ignoring all those fancy words he keeps tweeting, Trump is a pathetic failure at being president.
