If you create a post which includes some non-patrick.net URL, the title of the post will be a link to that external URL, opening in a new tab. There will also be a domain name after the title, like (theguardian.com)

If you want to read the patrick.net post and comments, click the "Posted 21 minutes ago" or "71 comments" links under the title.

I think this is more the expected behavior, going by forums like reddit.com and Hacker News, etc.

With this change, aren't you more likely to divorce the comment section from the content of the article?

It's pretty clear that many (most) of your high volume commenters do not read any further than the headline before they flame away in the comment section. With this change, won't you make that tendency worse?

@Patrick, you are the Marissa Mayer of patnet, and maybe of blog hosts in general. :-). Trying all those little changes all the time to see if something suddenly makes patnet take off like a supernova of the web.

So I wonder: How does this change affect the standing of patnet in the web popularity polls? :-)

(I could not resist pointing this out. I used to not understand why Patrick always wants to change how patnet works. Now I think I do. It just dawned on me).

Lol, I met Marissa Mayer once. Maybe it rubbed off. (Not physically, damn. She's pretty hot imho.)

I want newcomers to patrick.net to understand it very quickly. I think that's a weak point at the moment, so making titles behave in the conventional way seems like an improvement.

I'm hoping it actually gets people to read the external link a bit before commenting.

Also considering removing post author names from post lists in the hopes that people will not be so quick to rush to judgement based on what they "know" about that user.

I noticed that. I don't think it's a good idea. It would be better to have an icon or link next to the title to go to the first external link in the original post.

Good way to immediately escape Patnet.

What the fuck did Marissa Mayer do to earn $540 million in wealth? To all the dumb asses who think capitalism is great, is Mayer tens of thousands of times more productive than you are? Are you really such a lazy or dumb shit compared to her? Are you that unproductive in contrast?

Never said she deserved her money. I definitely deserve at least $540 million if she does.

I stand by my assertion that she's hot though. Or was.

Was. Almost no woman over 30 is hot. The exceptions are rare Hollywood engineered women.

This really sucks. Now I have to click on the small "comments" target instead of the large "title" target to get to what I want. I read posts far more often the the article linked, and when I read the article linked, I always first want to read the post as that gives the article it's context. Articles are supporting details, not the content of a thread. If the articles were the primary content, then this would be a news RSS feed, not a forum. Discussion is the primary content.

Every time I scroll over the title of this thread I think it says "Post titties are now links to external sites".

I would not want to live in a post-titties world.
