The owners of the NFL are reportedly considering a rule change that would make it mandatory for players to stand during the national anthem.

A league spokesman said that the owners would discuss the potential change during a meeting next week, Dow Jones reported.

In recent seasons, primarily black professional football players have knelt during the national anthem to protest racial inequality in the United States. The protests started after former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick last year began kneeling during the anthem to protest police mistreatment of black Americans.

Wait, how can the NFL do that, don't the players have "freedom of speech"??

.."Earlier Tuesday, President Donald Trump tweeted that tax laws should be changed so that the NFL doesn't get "massive tax breaks while at the same time disrespecting our Anthem, Flag and Country."

Ahhhh.... money (or lack of) talks where it counts!

Why is the NFL getting massive tax breaks while at the same time disrespecting our Anthem, Flag and Country? Change tax law!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 10, 2017

So many amazing tweets today. He knows he won this. Jerry Jones tried to split the difference but the public wasn't fooled, so now he's requiring them to stand.

Real men don't take orders from other men.
Real men don't sell out their principles for money.
Yes boss I'll suck your dick.
What's mostest stupidest is taxpayers funding stadiums.

This rhymes with Mueller. I'm waiting to see what happens.

Too little too late.
Football is going to have to go some social cleansing. Back to being a meritocracy based on wholesome values, and not who's the biggest murderous wildest animal that can throw a ball. People are sick of watching over paid Prison Bitches run with a ball while they disrespect America and drive up commodity and wholesale prices.

The message to the Charles Barkley types will be.

"You'll either be a Role Model or you'll work at Burger King."

How about this rule: no displays of fake patriotism at athletic events AT ALL!

Hey, it's a sordid event of thugs battling thugs for the entertainment of mobs and the profits of grandiose oligarchs! Why make the thugs kneel or stand for ANYTHING!

Rule change? I thought you were just arguing in another thread that this already was the rule?

It’s sad that the NFL would crater to Special Snowflakes like this.

Apologies to REM:

Stand at the game where you make millions
Now face flag
Think about how lucky you are, and why you haven't before

If you are confused, read the constitution.
Bank your 7 figures and realize
Identitarianism is not the solution.

Eyes are going, to be on the ball.
Not on Cultural Marxism
That will bury us all.

So Stand for the National Anthem...

If the NFL owners made the players suck dick for promotion, like in Hollywood, they would be much more pliable. "He honeytrapped me in the locker room, it was excruciating and humiliating. I only had to do it thirty more times and I feared for my safety. Yes, my safety, not my wide receiver!"

Even if he wins this battle, he's losing the war by choosing to fight this one. Everyone is watching him try to micromanage NFL players instead of doing his own job.

That's only the viewpoint of those who already hate him. He just won over a huge swath of the generally apolitical and what remains of working class white Dems. He'll carry PA and WI, etc. by an even wider margin in 2020.

The Dems don't realize every time they and their pundits and supporters publicly side with the Identitarians, they lose votes.

The NFL just realized they weren't picking up badly bearded Feminist Males and Pink Haired Gender Queers to make up for all the "Normie" White Males they lost.

Yes, because only Republicans watch the NFL and not a single Democrat is a war veteran or likes this country.

How do you figure?

When was the last time you set foot in this country?

I’ve yet to hear one single person who wasn’t already a Trumpcucks, react to anything he’s said or done favorably.

For instance, we have a forum on pro boards where a dozen+ of us do fantasy sports leagues and talk sports gambling. There’s one guy still making excuses for Trump, and he’s just a dumb Christian Republican, who stumped for Cruz and hated Trump, but must fall in line with the GOP.

Most of the other guys are small business owners, or labor class folk, and the ones who voted a/o supported Trump have all the way bailed on him. So much so they’ve said that they will vote against him in upcoming elections

cultural marxism is way more preferrable to economic marxism - we all saw what happened in workers paradise from 1917 to 1990.

They are the bosses. If your boss tells you to stand up during the anthem, it's your right to not stand up. But you could end up like this guy, and completely unemployed. Freedom of speech, and they have the freedom to fire.

So we'll see who the snowflakes are.
16   anonymous   2017 Oct 10, 12:24pm

Regardless of whether we believe standing for the national anthem is right or wrong, nobody should be compelled to stand for it. That seems to fly in the face of what we as a country believe in. We should strive to have a country where people want to stand for the national anthem, not one where we force them to stand for it.
17   anonymous   2017 Oct 10, 12:27pm

So we'll see who the snowflakes are.

There’s no need to wait, it’s already abundantly clear to any thinking person that the people whinging about the NFL players making peaceful protest to the greatest of injustices, are the Special Snowflakes.

They’re also disingenuous disinteresting losers, which couldn’t keep their word for even one week. I told you

His approval ratings seem to differ with you.

Not sure exactly when he started this fight, but it looks to be pretty closely aligned with his latest drop in approval ratings.

He just put a fork in his chances in the suburbs. He can kiss WI and PA goodbye.
19   joeyjojojunior   2017 Oct 10, 1:07pm

It's funny that all of the Trumpcucks are up in arms when ESPN fires Schilling or Google fires the guy who wrote the memo. But they fight tooth and nail for the NFL monopoly to censor their employees.

Just another example of the extreme hypocrisy of Trumpcucks.

So what is an accurate Approval Rating?

For Americans who vote, not your office coworkers in South America.

Depends on who is taking the polls.

We all know nearly every single poll in 2016 was dead wrong or else we'd have the Hag of Benghazi in charge.

For starters, one that doesn't oversample Dems.

And, said the report from Bombthrowers.com, one outfit, the Economist, used 58 percent more Democrats than Republicans in a recent poll on Trump's approval ratings.

"In every poll, Democrat respondents outnumbered Republicans by significant amounts. The Economist poll was the worst. Only 24 percent of respondents (360) were Republicans compared to 38 percent (570) Democrats – which means that 58 percent more Democrats were polled than Republicans, as shown in the %D/R column. On average, in these seven widely recognized national polls, only 29 percent (409 people) of the total 1,383 polled were Republicans, while 37 percent (518) were Democrats. Another way of saying it is that, on average, 29 percent more Democrats than Republicans were polled," wrote James Simpson, an economist, businessman and journalist.

Simpson called the practice "fraud."

And 538 adjusts for that. But, in truth, you and CIC are wrong to assume that the proper sampling is 50/50. It absolutely is NOT.

There are a LOT of people who claim to not be Republicans who have voted straight party ticket for Rs for the last 20 years.

Nope. Every single national poll had Hillary winning by ~2%. And she won by slightly more than 2%.

National polling was VERY accurate. Much more accurate than usual.

A few select state polls were off, mostly because of a timing issue where late deciding voters broke heavily for one candidate (Trump). It wasn't a sampling or polling issue, it was just a timing issue.

40   justme   2017 Oct 10, 7:46pm

Y'all know what I think about this already:

If the NFL enacts the proposed rule, the NFL player's union should take the NFL to court, all the way to the supreme court, if necessary. And in SCOTUS, the NFL will loose. An employer cannot demand (compel, impose on) of employees to speak politically. The employees have freedom of expression, including the freedom not to express the opinion of the employer.
