Early Comey memo accused Clinton of gross negligence on emails.

An early draft of former FBI Director James Comey’s statement closing out the Hillary Clinton email case accused the former secretary of State of having been "grossly negligent” in handling classified information, newly reported memos to Congress show.

The tough language was changed to the much softer accusation that Clinton had been “extremely careless” in her handling of classified information when Comey announced in July 2016 there would be no charges against her.

The change is significant, since federal law states that gross negligence in handling the nation’s intelligence can be punished criminally with prison time or fines.

Those sources said the draft statement was subsequently changed in red-line edits to conclude that the handling of 110 emails containing classified information that were transmitted by Clinton and her aides over her insecure personal email server was “extremely careless.”

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, said the memos show that at least three top FBI officials were involved in helping Comey fashion and edit the statement, including Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, General Counsel James Baker and chief of staff Jim Rybicki.

“The red-line history clearly shows the original statement was designed to allege Clinton committed gross negligence and then someone changed it to extreme carelessness,” one source said.

But Comey also conceded in public statements that the FBI also found some evidence of criminality during the email probe.

Oh now now, don't short change Comey. He's no small time punk!
For him to be that involved in thwarting her prosecution. He's got some shit. His Shit has got some SHIT!
He needs Mueller's eyes up his backside for year or two.

Grassley: Early Drafts of Comey's Exoneration Statement Acknowledged Hillary Clinton Violated Federal Law.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray late Monday afternoon demanding to know why early versions of former FBI Director James Comey's statement exonerating Hillary Clinton strongly indicated she had violated federal law by hosting and sharing top secret information on a personal email server. In Comey's final statement, which he delivered in July 2016, that language was changed.

“Although Director Comey’s original version of his statement acknowledged that Secretary Clinton had violated the statute prohibiting gross negligence in the handling of classified information, he nonetheless exonerated her in that early, May 2nd draft statement anyway, arguing that this part of the statute should not be enforced,” Grassley said.

There is evidence to support a conclusion that Secretary Clinton, and others, used the private email server in a manner that was grossly negligent with respect to the handling of classified material.[1]

That same draft also included the following sentence:

Similarly, the sheer volume of information that was properly classified as Secret at the time it was discussed on email (that is, excluding the “up classified” emails) supports an inference that the participants were grossly negligent in their handling of that information.[2]

Apparently, as of May 2016, then-Director Comey and other FBI officials believed the facts fit that gross negligence standard until later edits were made on or about June 10, 2016, removing those two sentences and including the following sentence instead:

Although we did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws governing the handling of classified information, there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.[3]

Comey drafted Clinton's exoneration statement in May 2016, months before Clinton and a number of other key witnesses in the FBI criminal case were interviewed and long before agents were finished with their investigation.

And so Trump was justified firing Comey, and isn’t guilty of obstruction of justice. Half of the Democratic case against Trump thus falls apart. The other half regarding collusion with Russia is dying a slow death. Surely any damning evidence would have been leaked by now. The Dossier scandal points more to the Dems colluding with Russia than it does Trump. He went up against the entire Republican Party and won the nomination. No one is alleging corruption or cheating in the primary in any way. This was just as impressive a feat as the general election. The Dems were beaten fair and square, even while they cheated.

I don't think I would call it fair and square when 90% of media was negative toward Trump from the get go.

I agree, not fair and square a I agree, not fair and square at all. In fact, the deck was stacked against Trump and he still won.

No matter what Comey,Hillary & her unknown cronies(who won't be known until indictments are issued) have done doesn't stop Mueller & if some don't know,Hillary's not President.

I love independence.

Hey piggy, when are all these indictments coming down you for all the crimes you keep talking about time and time again? I'm waiting and waiting to see hillary and co in jail like you keep promising. I thought hillary was going to jail the day after the inauguration.

She should go to jail. Even people in the DNC, Donna Brazile and Fauxhontas Warren, are throwing Hillary under the bus. What she did is criminally prosecutable. If Jeff Sessions wasn't such a wuss, she would be in jail. Trey Gowdy would put her in the slammer.

Want to tell us under what criminal statute? Being a sleazebag isn't a criminal offence or trump would be in the same cell with hillary.
