I agree that Bush made some huge mistakes. Iraq war was one, and tax cuts at a time when they are not needed is another. That combined with Greenspan calling the housing bubble harmless froth was fuel on an asset inflation fire. Ironically, Trump is on a path to repeat both mistakes. He's gelling into quite the war president, saber rattling away. He's also calling for big tax cuts at a time when they are not particularly needed. He's calling for big corporate cuts at a time when corporations are rolling in cash, and have been very profitable for the past 7 years. He's doing all of this when stocks are already priced high and real estate has long passed the last bubble.
Now, we will have to wait another 16 years to have the same hindsight that we now have with Bush. But I find this analysis a bit ironic.
Bannon/Trump's anti-trade and anti-cooperation (globalization) stance is new. I believe that what Trump is finding out is that the military likes globalization (the new world order) a lot, as it gives us a lot of power today (indefinitely as long as we can keep economic strength) and has resulted in a very long stretch with no world war. Bannon/Trump are making the bet that the only way to insure future economic strength is by restricting trade with the rest of the world. I believe the opposite will happen, because most of the economists that I've read have said as much, and the theory (cooperation leads to inefficiencies) makes sense to me.

Still think Reagan is the worst followed closely by Bush Jr. and Obama. Reagan will loose historical popularity as the boomer looters die off that made off with future generations wealth. Bush Jr was horrible and got us into a bullshit fake war, but all of the China and offshoring stuff was set in motion mostly by Reagan and Bush Sr. Trump has only had a year and hasn't done enough to tell where he's going to land in the mix.

If you’re so committed to the idea of globalization as a cure for world war and a panacea tomglobal prosperity, shall we lift all sanctions against Russia and make them say, our second favorite trading partner? Surely there are lots of things to trade, and we could even connect the entire globe with a transcontinental highway that reaches through Canada and Alaska to zip across the narrow Bering Sea to Siberia and on towards Europe? What an absolutely epic journey that would be in an RV! Kids from Boston could jump in the jalopy and be in Prague in a couple of weeks!
Or are we still so butthurt over an imaginary Russian collusion hack that we can’t consider it?
