Zebras CAN be domesticated and CAN be trained to pull loads.

One biologist in the Victorian Era trained 6 Zebras to pull a carriage through the crowded streets of London.

His name was Baron Walter von Rothschilds.

By the way, the original horse was too small to be ridden, about the size of a large dog. Humans, probably at first for MEAT, domesticated them anyway.

If Indo-Europeans could breed Horses for work as well as meat, so could Africans the Zebra.

I'm surprised that since then no one tried to breed them over generations, selecting for domesticity.
I guess it's a lot of trouble to get a black and white horse.
