I changed the header to include a count of non-logged in distinct IP addresses which have visited the site in the last 5 minutes. A lot of those are search engine bots.

Will be interesting to see how much this number varies over the course of a day. If it's flat regardless of time of day, then it's probably mostly robots. I suppose it's still flattering to be liked by robots.

I miss the old days when the side had 25,000 unique visitors per day.

Fucking White Male says
^^^^ bot.

Actually, that one seems to be real, going by the relevance and US-based IP.

Updated lurker count to exclude all IPs which have a user-agent (ie, browser identifier) which includes "bot", as in the Bing Bot and other search engines bots. So the number will decline, but should better reflect real humans hitting the site. Can take up to 5 minutes from now to finish excluding bots.

Ah, that did cut it down a ton. Now about 15 lurkers.

I saw like a 124 lurkers last night.
What happened to the linked feature?

Apparently most of them were search engine bots.

Wow- so I've been lurking on here for about 10 years and I never realized the recent changes made it so easy to post without an account.

The Ggg was accidental.
