"Portrait: RV resident Robert Ramirez, 54, has been living in his RV for about six months. Ramirez supports himself by collecting recyclable materials and also gets government assistance. He wishes he could park his trailer in a RV park for more stability in his life but he can't afford it."

Don't they have recyclables in Detroit? Does he really-really need to stay in CA for his "career"?

He has some nice gang tats poking up around his neck. Don't gangs offer pensions?

Wish they had shown the obligatory shot of him smoking a cigarette.

Why can't he just get a job? I'm sure San Jose has a McDonalds.

RVs are now CA houses of last resort

Again with the nomad bashing? Dry-docking an owned RV in CA is my wet dream. While everyone else is ponying out +30% of their income on housing, I'd be spending that money on vacations, and living the good life of more financial freedom and flexibility. Why the fuck does he want to pay lot fees every week? Way better to just pay overnight docking when you need to recharge your generator and flush your grey and black water.

I had this idea too. I can't say I looked into it in depth, but I had trouble finding places where I could consistently park and hook up in the bay. Seems every place wants space rent that approaches the cost of an apt. I'd love to be able to find a place I could consistently park that's free or cheap, and then occasionally pay a reasonable fee to hook up to utilities.

Great slacker ideas are invariably defeated by population pressures. Cali used to be a great slackers' paradise. Now, the slackers are competing with each other and giving each other beat downs, descending into mini ghetto constraints and avoidance tactics.

This guy needs to move to Camden.

Learn to shoot.

Dumpsters are filled with racoons in Camden and Philadelphia.

He could live on that if he was good at shooting in the dark.

And you can hunt whistle pig year round to supplement the coons

That would be any Walmart parking lot. You'll just need to find local dump stations to empty your tanks and refill your water.

This is not fit for any human to live in. For they sake of humanity I would be willing to be a guinea pig for a week or so, and stay there.

Never tried it, but I know at least one person who has done it living in my area, and there is a definite issue with police harassment.

I'd heard Walmart wasn't allowing dry dockers anymore. I've heard business parks, but really, just anyplace where it's inconspicuous, and where no one will call the police on you.
