About time.

WASHINGTON/UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that vote in favour of a draft United Nations resolution calling for the United States to withdraw its decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Well, we're watching those votes. Let them vote against us. We'll save a lot. We don't care," Trump told reporters at the White House.

The 193-member U.N. General Assembly will hold a rare emergency special session on Thursday - at the request of Arab and Muslim countries - to vote on a draft resolution, which the United States vetoed on Monday in the 15-member U.N. Security Council.

The remaining 14 Security Council members voted in favour of the Egyptian-drafted resolution, which did not specifically mention the United States or Trump but which expressed "deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem."

Why should we give any aid to countries that don't like us, and don't wish us well?
7   Rew   2017 Dec 20, 10:23pm

More restoring the image of America abroad and standing by our allies.
I hope the majority of the UN stands against us. What a little tantrum throwing, play with our own toys, disgrace we are right now.

We help fund the UN, paying for about 22% of it. That's not "direct aid" to countries.

That's the gosh darn neighborhood watch program in the "town we live in", and our town has some rough parts. Sure, we live in the nice area in the hills, though. Yes, we can take our money away. We have a lot of business interest downtown that will suffer first, but no matter. The sad part is eventually the blight will likely creep up into the foothills as well. It will take some time. I'm sure some gangs will move in to setup a new balance of power. But you know what, not our direct neighborhood, so ... F 'em. Right?

Isolationist saber rattling pants wetters. Run away America, run away. It's ok ... the big boys will take over.
8   Goran_K   2017 Dec 20, 11:40pm

We shouldn’t be funding a globalist force like the UN anyway. What does the UN actually do?
9   WatermelonUniversity   2017 Dec 21, 1:28am

What a chimp trump really is, basically confirming the US has been using aid money to buy UN votes all these years. Loud mouth idiot. He think they don’t already know that?
10   FNWGMOBDVZXDNW   2017 Dec 21, 1:57am

Yeah, he's getting rid of any pretense that the UN is a fair and unbiased arbiter. Might as well put up a big sign up that says moralistic facade for bully's house.

13   MisdemeanorRebel   2017 Dec 21, 9:15am

Especially since only a fraction of that Aid actually gets to poor people.

Most of it gets spent in Paris, Milan, and Gstadt. No wonder the Euros want us to keep giving large amounts of aid, regardless of support.

What were the right wingers doing all this time?

You guys always blame everything on the left, have you ever bothered to check and see what the Right is doing?
23   MisdemeanorRebel   2017 Dec 21, 11:01am

The UN is like Puerto Rico. They love us a few minutes before and after we hand over the money but only if we don't ask how it is spent. The rest of the time, they spend opposing our every will as Colonialist Toxic White Male Oppressors

To the Many Voices of the Third World, shut the fuck up.

No seriously, if they are going to put their hand in our pockets, the least they can do is give it a little rub once in a while.

Countries which voted against the resolution:

US, Israel, Togo, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Marshall Islands, Guatemala and Honduras

LOL

Are you saying that Bush was not a globalist? Since when? Reagan was not a globalist? Since when?

And Trump is not a globalist? He is giving the biggest tax cut to corporations that derive half o their revenue outside of US.

I’m talking about now. As in this time.

As for the other drivel about tax cuts to business, how is letting businesses keep more of their money globalism? I think you are confused.
31   MisdemeanorRebel   2017 Dec 21, 3:29pm

Afghanistan and Pakistan received about $15B in US Aid. More than a third of total US Aid just to those two countries.

Eithiopia? Shy of a billion.

Guess how they voted? Against the USA.

Let's start working on reducing the deficit.

Friends will always disagree at times. It's expected and it's normal. What we are looking for is countries that consistently go against our interests. They are not our friends, and they deserve no aid from us. Fuck Them.
33   Rew   2017 Dec 21, 3:58pm

The vote was pretty brutal. ????

Abstentions by Canada, Mexico, Australia, and a few others.

34   MisdemeanorRebel   2017 Dec 21, 4:18pm

In the past few days, not only did the UN presume to nullify our sovereign right to place our own embassies, but the EU told us our tax reform was unacceptable.

Not only did they want to nullify our sovereignity, but also our democratic elections.

Let that sink in.

Except that’s not what they did. They voiced an opinion, just as the US does constantly around the world.

Er, didn’t you just support the new tax plan? And now you are talking about working on the deficit by quibbling over a few billion in expenditure brought about almost entirely as a consequence of the US’s own disastrous military policies (that in themselves wasted trillions). Go figure.

I believe he is complaining about wasting money. We should not give handouts to countries that hate us. It's stupid, and it's a waste of money.
