#Liberalism and high taxes

https://www.illinoispolicy.org/story/home-is-where-the-hurt-is-how-property-taxes-are-crushing-illinois-middle-class/
Joel Schurtz lived all across the U.S. before coming to Illinois. He took promising job opportunities where he could find them, from California to Alabama. His wife, Michelle, and their three young children would follow.
“Our family always had a plan,” Joel said. “We had three- to five-year goals and a plan. But when we came to Illinois that plan went out the window.”

Great article. Thanks for posting.

"Suburban father Peter Brunk has felt the squeeze in Lake Villa, Illinois, which is located in Lake County. Brunk, too, has made plans for an Illinois exit in the near future.

Since his family moved into their home in 2010, the annual property-tax bill has risen by more than $2,300, or nearly 30 percent. Meanwhile, the value of his home actually decreased."

OK guys so which place is cheaper: Pick one.
1. Lake County Illinois, where home prices went down since 2010, and property taxes went up $2,300
2. Typical home in OC California, where prices doubled since 2010, and property taxes only go up 2% per year.

It's not the sticker price of the home that determines the real cost of the home. It's the sticker price, property taxes, and appreciation that determines the true value of a home.
Those who purchased in Illinois in 2010, paid a high price for their homes.
Those who purchased in OC lived for free in their homes, and in addition got paid. What a deal.

I have three friends from college who left IL because of the taxes.
That state is killing itself, strangled by Democrat-run government and the horrid policies they inevitably enact.

Reminds one of Kansas.

Kansas still is growing in population. IL has been losing people for years now. Who wants to pay 15,000 proeprtyt axes for a 300k house.

Bruce Rauner the republican has been a disappointment-he should learn from trump. IL has over 7,000 taxing bodies-more than any state-even more than CA. Everyone of them has management, pensions etc etc.

This is the problem with the left and taxes. Kansas tax cuts may be extreme, but the local homeowner is not paying through his nose to live in his own home. The bureacrats and public unions are bleeding the state dry-all due tot he democrats and the imbecile repubs who don't know how to fight back/

It's the Mafia unions. They destroyed many good businesses, which ironically resulted in a lower union membership. Now they rely on public employees that cannot go out of business.
I ask again...why should government employees make more than the average citizen? Why?
5   HappyGilmore   2017 Dec 30, 6:26am

And the endless repetition of lies continues unabated on pat.net.

IL has had a Republican governor more than Dem over the last 30 years.

$300K homes do not pay $15K in property taxes save a few very rare exceptions.

Lake County, IL homes prices are not going down.

Property taxes are not set by the State--they are local taxes.

OK--now back to the regular scheduled programming of the same lies
6   Shaman   2017 Dec 30, 7:02am

One friend had his whole family come with him to Montana where there’s no state tax and the property taxes are reasonable. There are millions fewer welfare cases and hundreds of thousands less bureaucrats to support with usurious pensions, so it’s possible!
He packed up his mom and dad and brought them along! They seem happy in a more natural, less Democrat environment.

Those who have to pay don't care what those taxes are called. They are still taxes, they are based on property, and they are a ripoff. Pure mafia extortion to to fill the pockets of undeserving government employees.

Aaah joey

The republican governor has been an idiot.
Once in your life, be honest-who is tax and spend party?

300k homes do pay 15k taxes-what in your liberal opinion is an ok amount to tax?

Proeprty taxes are hamstrung by state requirments of pensions. The state legislature tried to make it a crime to not allow collective bargaining. You would go to jail for not paying union dues or some such.

Lake county prices are nowehere near where they would be if property taxes were reasonable.

Just because you repeat the same lies-does not make it true. Dems are the tax and spend party. IL has 7,000 + govt bodies-more than any other state. Rauner and other reps have tried to cut, but the massive dem majority refuses to budge for the fat cat unions.

The pig unions live off the normal folks and it is the dem utopia. This is democrats on steroids -the same as the soviet union and it is what the dems aspire to.

Why don't you read the article for a change and see why the local jurisdictions are forced to pay by the state?

No I want to blame the people responsible. You are the one who has a hard-on to blame Dems.

Pick a few counties where you think taxes are too high and let's look at the political makeup of the county board and assessor

The democrats tried to make it a criminal offense to challenge a union.

And again--I'm not the partisan one here. This bill has zero to do with why IL property taxes are high or which party is responsible. This is merely a counter in the back and forth. IL Republicans tried to get a back door to right to work status and Dems are fighting back.

Not sure why anyone is cheering for lower wages which is all the Republicans want. Race to the bottom!! Woo-hoo!!

Yes it does. Because of this and the other barriers of the state democrats, the individual jurisdictions cannot negotatite and lower their costs. The thug unions and the thug dem union bosses keep the stranglehold and keep the populace as slaves and live as public masters. The same in any leftie paradise-where success is penalized and govt thugs reign supreme-which is the democrat wet dream.

You think this bill was for government workers?

No--it was to allow the Republican 1% to drive down wages as far as possible so they pay labor less and keep more.

You're funny--the Republican paradise you dream of is back in the days of the robber barons. Where companies own their workers, set up little company towns with company stores where they force their serfs to work 18-20 hours/day, 7 days/week. Worker injuries and deaths were common. We've been there and done this and thankfully unions helped drive change to where labor was valued. I'd prefer not to go back.

We are already close due tot eh Obama and Clinton's attempts at NAFTA and tPP. Thank God for Trump else TPP would be law. Meanwhile the fat gubmnt unions will laugh and grab your house if you get cancer and can't pay he obscene property taxes and laugh like the DR evil.

"The concept, which generally applies to private-sector unions, has gained traction among conservative politicians across the nation as states try to spur economic growth following a brutal recession that saw businesses close and tax dollars dry up."

That is what happens when you listen to a thug dem politician. The politician sponsoring this arrest bill said on the floor of the house that the right to work law is important to all employees under a collective bargaining agreement-that it will impact policemen and firemen. he said this on the floor of the house while pushing for the arrest of politicians who advances the right to work law.

Just like Obama-if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor, if you like your plan you can keep your plan. This thug sponsor said it on the floor of the house-are you saying he lied on the floor of the house to get more support? There is a pattern among Chicago dems.

It is you who can't have a civil discussion-when you say lies, lies lies and throw all kinds of insults. Can't you self reflect and think instead of projecting your behavior on others or regurgitating talking points. You talk about being civil-LOL-self reflection is valuable-unless you are a paid partisan hack !

The quote you posted may be from wherever. But the sponsor of the arrest bill said on the floor of the house that it impacts all employees of a collective bargaining agreement. That is what he said while pushing for arrest of elected folks-just think of that for a minute-arrest of people saying they don't want to force participate in a union and you support this thug police state.

The bill allows municipalities to be right to work even in a state that is not right to work. The point of the bill is to allow companies to build new plants and not be right to work if unionized.

State workers would obviously not be affected. It's definitely possible that a politician stood up on the floor and issued a statement that exaggerated the truth to scare and make his point. And when I say government workers, I'm typically not thinking of police and firefighters.

And every time you make ridiculous statements like I support a thug police state, it only hurts your argument.
