Two would-be thieves were found dead Friday inside a Detroit public lighting facility after they were electrocuted by 24,000 volts.

Officials said the pair was found at a substation of the Detroit Public Lighting Department on the city's east side around 6.50am on Friday.

The thieves were attempting to steal copper wire when one of the men came in contact with a 24,000-volt transformer and transferred the current along to the other, reported WDIV.

Police said the bodies were badly burned and that the current was so strong that they bodies were fused together.

It's not the volts, it's the amps. But it's a shit-ton of amps too.

OMG this is horrible. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Some poor guy will now have to miss a New Years Eve party and clean up the mess.
My sympathies to the family of the guy who has to clean up.

Especially the morbidly obese but probably more like roasted pork belly without the curing.

Yep, I guess there wasn't a 20 amp breaker on that line.

Amps, volts, or bullets. What difference does it make as long it does the job?

I’d bet even more that it was two registered felons and felons can’t vote (in most states).

A friend of a friend was just CLOSE to a electrical arc at a 4160volt transformer and suffered flash burns severe enough to cause 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his arms that weren’t covered by clothing and part of his face, bad enough he had to be hospitalized! High voltage is no joke. Even if you don’t get shocked you can still get hurt.

I deal with it probably 3-4 days a week, and safety procedures are what’s kept me alive so far.

These idiots stealing copper are just doing Darwin’s work.
