Don’t be silly, we don’t force people to buy and smoke marijuana in CA.

You merely have the option as a human being to do it if you please, just like alcohol in your state. You can drink yourself to death or you can abstain from touching it. You have a brain and you can choose.

Look for an out of place black guy standing awkwardly in a white neighborhood.
4   anonymous   2018 Jan 1, 11:38am

You can buy alcohol, drugs, guns... only a matter of time before you can buy sex and slaves again. CA fail again.
5   BayArea   2018 Jan 1, 11:49am

Yes, the ability to buy guns and alcohol/marijuana always leads to the ability to buy slaves lol

For the record, I don’t smoke marijuana and don’t intend to buy it.

But outlawing it and filling up prisons for marijuana offenses is a travesty.

Enough dumb asses using alcohol driving, now let's increase that number by making weed legally available - what could possibly go wrong?? Like I said, just another reason to not live in CA.

For what it’s worth, this was mentioned on the show “Meet the Press”

Statistics on how the new law will influence the use of Marijuana::

20% - it will be easier to get
8% - consider might use it
72%- no plan to use it

Actually, someone was telling me that the number of drunk driving accidents goes down the more that pot is legally available.

One explanation is that people tend to get stoned at home and so don't need to drive home from the bar. I suppose it's plausible.

States that legalize medical marijuana see fewer fatal car accidents, according to a new study, in part because people may be substituting marijuana smoking for drinking alcohol.

Weed affects people much differently than alcohol. When drunk, people retain a ton of agency and desires to do things and go places, as well as a belief that they can function as well or better than while sober. So they often drive faster and take more chances when they inevitably decide to go somewhere.
When stoned, people lose much agency, feel like doing absolutely nothing, and drive slow as a constipated shit if some force does get them on the road.
There’s really no comparison.

And we shall see. Side note, I was a stoner way back when ... did I drive stoned, OH YEAH, all the time, every place. Do I drive drunk? Seeing as how I drink less than once a month (on average) the answer is no. Based on my past, I see nothing good, no reason for recreational weed, medical is a totally different animal. So as someone who has been on both sides of the issue, I think it is a stupid idea and just don't think it's going to work out well.

What do you find stupid about it?

Why don’t you think it will work out well?

A bit of a generalization, albeit quite humorous. A lot of folks buy into the indica/sativa dichotomy of weed, where indica gives one couch lock, and sativa gives a more cerebral energizing high. So someone stoned on indica might be less able to drive well than someone who had gotten high on sativa.

Really??

People can't drink at home and need to go to the bar?

Let's see, we are going to make MORE ways to become 'buzzed' which leads to more chances to operate machinery 'buzzed' and you don't see this as a bad idea? I give up.

See the above thought. Also, remember, I was formally a stoner (REAL stoner like stoned each and every day, consuming 2 - 6 joints a day, pretty much for years on end) and the strength of the weed now makes what I was smoking look tame. But hey, what could possibly go wrong - sheesh.

How are we making MORE ways to become 'buzzed'? Most all of the Cannabis production and distribution and consumption chain and infrastructure has already been in place for literally decades. What we're trying to do here is end The War on Drugs and Cannabis/Hemp prohibition so that we can put an end to all the USFEDGOV wrongs and do right by We THe People. We're trying to #MAGA

We're trying to bring a FREE MARKET, SMALL GOVERNMENT, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, LIBERTY AND FREEDOM Solution to the USFEDGOV caused problems that go along with prohibition.

We're trying to boost the Economy
We're trying to give people Jobs in Domestic Production Ventures

You seem to think that because you were formally a stoner that made poor decisions like operate machinery 'buzzed', that others will do the same.
We already have legal alcohol after ending Prohibition there almost a century ago. Has that led to more people operating machinery 'buzzed'?

Also, while there are varying degrees of potency, please do not spread the disinformation that the Cannabis of today is somehow more potent than the Cannabis of yesterday. It's simple false. There has always been stronger and weaker grass produced and consumed, and if anything, todays Cannabis is WEAKER than the Cannabis of yesteryear.

It would be the same as if you used to drink a few Coors light and then today you drank a few shots of Everclear and claimed "damn! todays stuff is so much stronger than that from the good ole days!"

Todays high end, high quality strains, have the same potency profiles they did for decades. There's just a greater prevalence of high end strains (what with decriminalization and legalization bringing it out of the shadows)

So we need to expand this to 'other' things that we have prohibition? Coke? Heroin? Smack? Assisted suicide? Murder? Yes, I know some of the ideas are extreme but to others it becomes that issue of 'personal responsibility, liberty and freedom. We do prohibit certain things because as a society we've deemed them to be harmful to our values and the society that we want to build and see succeed.

Under Trump, it seems to be doing well, even with weed illegal.

Probably. I've known several people who have been fired for drinking on the job and in a few cases for doing other drugs on the job. I wasn't around and don't know about prohibition days so I can't answer that part of the question.

Always have been varying strengths, very true. What I can tell you is that as a user I could tell when one was stronger, didn't really stop my actions (driving, working). As for the strains being stronger today. I'm going on what I read and most of what I've seen/read says that today's pot is stronger (as a whole) than it was 40 years ago.

Not impressed with making recreational pot legal. Just as I don't think making percocet, cocaine or heroin a legally recreational drug would be a good idea. Just one man with many years of experience behind my opinion.

A ridiculous comparison. You may as well place owning a handgun in the same category as owning a TOW missile launcher.

Maybe, but remember errc says it's about personal responsibility, freedom and free market - to that end you could do the handgun/TOW missile launcher comparison.
