MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The state Senate on Wednesday gave final approval to a bill that would allow the recreational use of marijuana, putting Vermont on course to become the first state in the country to legalize pot by an act of the Legislature rather than through a citizen referendum.

By voice vote, the Senate agreed to the proposal that would make it legal for adults to possess and grow small amounts of marijuana but does not set up a system to tax and regulate the production and sale of the drug. The bill that was approved by the House last week, and Gov. Phil Scott has indicated he would sign it.

“It’s an important criminal justice reform to stand up and say the era of prohibition should end and Vermont needs a more sensible marijuana policy,” legalization proponent Laura Subin of the Vermont Coalition to Regulate Marijuana said before the vote.

Relax - I doubt we will see the Fed's cracking down on states with legalized weed. They are far more important things to worry about with our limited resources.

All Sessions is doing is putting the onus back on the US Congress to formally decriminalize pot instead of having all these States dancing around the issue.

States dancing around what issue?

You mean Trumps federal government waging war against innocent, freedom loving Americans?

By kicking in the doors to their houses and shooting their kids and pets to death before ransacking their homes and seizing sll their assets?

So they can focus on more important issues like putting anti American piece of shit on the Supreme Court, sucking the toes of Saudi Royalty?

Why be so dishonest?

For a supposed Nationalist, this President sure finds time for a lot of golfing and tweeting while the nation is held captive like one big open air prison where fuck your rights, fuck your life, fuck your liberty, fuck your family’s well being. They will send an armed gang of union thugs to your door or maybe your neighbors dor on accident and shoot you in the face and steal all your stuff

Relax, it’s no big deal!

Trump appointed someone to the Supreme Court! Yuge accomplishment!

Even if it’s an anti-American halfwit

The issue that marijuana is still considered a Schedule I controlled substance by our Federal Government.

The Feds need to fix this.

I'll be the first one to complain if Sessions under the Trump administration starts wasting time and going after pot growers in states with legalized weed.

Isn’t it the Feds that are dancing around the issue?

It’s widely supported by a vast majority of Americans.

So why is Trump sending an enemy worse than ISIS to harass States Rights and Personal Freedoms?

How often do you contact your Republicans Representatives to demand they act or else you promised to vote them out?

Apply what the nitwit trump mumbled about the imaginary lines around the states (wrt insurance) to hemp and Cannabis

Why are Republicans so anti-Americans and why do they hate States Rights, Personal responsibility and freedom?

Uh - because it is still Federal Law where there is interstate commerce and legal issues involved?

If California decided to legalize slavery, would you be jumping all over Sessions for going after them and trying to mock Conservatives for being hypocritical over State's rights?

Again, the situation on weed was untenable over the long term. All Obama did was kick the can down the road and tell the DOJ to not make it a priority. That's fine for a few years to allow states who legalize weed to get their shit together and show the rest of the country that they can have legal weed an not fuck everything up. But at the end of the day, the Feds will need to formally decriminalize it.
