Historical record of changed user names (crowdsourced and confessional)

Hi all, I think it is about time that we got a repository of historical user names and how they have been changed over time. Please contribute your knowledge. Changing usernames is an annoyance, and I don't feel like spending the energy trying to keep track of all the username shenanigans.

I hope this thread will crowdsource all the known username changes. Feel free to post your knowledge, and/or confess to your username changes. New users that are reincarnations of old users is also of interest.

I'll start:

Patrick: AKA Patrick
justme: AKA justme
iwog: AKA iwog
thunderlips11 AKA Lashkar-e-Trump AKA TwoScoops McGee AKA TwoScoopsPlissken (and more?)
?????? AKA BorderPatrol
Malcolm AKA Malcolm
mell AKA mell
errc AKA errc
?????? AKA FNWGMOBDVZXDNW
APOCALYPSEFUCK_is_ADORABLE same person as DIE_BankofAmerica_FUCKING_DIE! but two different accounts
Ceffer AKA Ceffer
HEYYOU AKA HEYYOU
Tenpoundbass AKA Tenouncetrout
Straw Man AKA Satoshi_Nakamoto
Onvacation AKA alternate account for ?????????
dodgerfanjohn AKA Fuckingwhitemale AKA PEACEandGOODWILL AKA CovfefeButDeadly
Call it Crazy, Ironman, Sniper, other aliases or usernames: DrunkJazz, Iwogisapussy, DrunkSbh, Pussyhydrocarbon, Fuckmarcus
Headset AKA @Headset (welcome back!)

I have added to the list above as new knowledge is added in the comment section. Please add with the earliest known username in the left column. The order of the list is not intended to assign any particular significance, it was based mostly on who was recently active or who came to mind at the moment.

I am perplexed. Did one of my posts just get deleted? @Patrick I imagine

Yes, personal attack, talking about other user's feelings and motives.

And the preceding by the target himself was also personal, and deleted.

Really don't want two users talking about each other. Maybe we should all indeed be anonymous.

I'm searching my memory and I cannot believe I wrote anything even remotely like a personal attack. Could you remind me of the offending phrase so I can prevent it in the future?

Even if you emailed it to me that would be fine.
87   Patrick   ignore (0)   2018 Jan 15, 5:02pm   ↑ like (0)   ↓ dislike (0)     quote

It wasn't a direct attack, and I regret deleting it now (my apologies). What set me off was 5 uses of "you" or "your", which seemed to make the comment more about the person than the issue:

I do apologize if I wasn't clear but my request was for evidence that the world is Cooling. You are undoubtedly quite enthusiastic about your position but even if 2017 was cooler than 2016 does this really establish a trend?

I know you have created many threads on this issue but I'd like more of a back-and-forth instead of a question that I believe contains and implied falsity. If you strongly believe the Earth is Cooling, surely you have a significant amount of evidence to back that up right?

I'll be more restrained in the future.

I tried to tell you this multiple times.

But there was a lot of whining by the people who only come here to attack others

It works at reddit just fine.

How does it work at Reddit? Users are definitely not anonymous there. It just seems that each subreddit has its own moderation rules.

Why is the 'ignore' link not a satisfactory solution? You won't see the guy's posts or comments.

Because
a. I don't want to put people on ignore.
b. And I'm not asking to ignore everything he posts. I'm asking why he needs to continually post the same tired stuff on climate change to people who have already seen it a countless number of times. The self-proclaimed experts on here always make me laugh, but once or twice is enough. By the hundredth time...

There’s millions of users and people make throwaway accounts all the time SO THE FOCUS IS ON WHAT IS BEING SAID RATHER THAN THE PERSON THAT IS SAYING IT

It was this one:

Brother anon
Just because some people can't take the truth makes it no less truthful.
After you have been here for a couple of years you MIGHT understand the meaning of free speech.

Again, it's not terribly personal and I regret deleting.

@Patrick

There seems to be an issue with the features where we like or dislike or mark as personal

Used to be able to undo if I fat fingered something, but today i meant to hit a like but it went to dislike, then i wanted to un dislike and accidentally hit personal, which it asks are you sure, which i meant to hit no, but not sure which I actually did.

It just dawned on me that for many years on this very site, many posters pleaded for civility, and asked time and again for an end to the personal attacks and harassing. Over and over again, different ideas were tried to cease the nonstop character assassination perpetuated primarily by one user, but supported by all who enjoyed watching those who suffered at his hands, mainly because they knew he was on their team, and would never aim those sites on them, but rather continually disrupt those who they see as on the “other” side.

Oddly enough, the perp was left to continue his shtick unabated, and the victims became target of a return to civility campaign, as if they were the reason for the uncivil tone.

Is it any wonder that it was greeted with such backlash, and has been so poorly received, with even poorer results?

The word "personality" has been mentioned a number of times now. Americans have a strange relationship with that word. They seem to think it is different and separate from "person". But it isn't. Personality is who you really are, not who you pretend to be on TV or whatever stage you are on.

Not entirely coincidentally, It reminds of how many people view the words "sincere" and "sincerity". I have heard people saying, very "sincerely", sentences along the lines of "I tried to be sincere with her" when I reality what they did was try to SOUND sincere. Sincerity is not a tone of voice or a manner of speaking. It is about the truthfulness and completeness of the content.

But I digress, or do I?

(I had this comment sitting for several days in my editor, and finally decided that it should be on print somewhere. So now was the time)

I think Patrick's aversion for "personal attacks" is really an aversion for drawn out tit-for-tat exchanges. I have already suggested over and over again how that is fixed: Limit the number of threads per person per day to 1. Limit the number of comments per person per thread to 5-10. Done.

Is it merely coincidence that after Trump took incivility to a new level, by leveling nonstop personal attacks against his opponents in the elections, that there was a 180 here wrt allowing personal attacks and character assassination, especially by those who contend that Trump is doing a good job?

Another thing I’ve pondered: if a group of people are subjected to a lengthy period of personal attacks, and they finally decide that they’ve had enough, is returning serve at their attackers actually more Personal Attacks, or simply Personal Defense?

I wonder why people are having these types of reactions?

It’s almost as if they were sold a lie that they were made to be subjected to years of attacks and harassment, all in the name of Free Speech.

It’s almost as if some people don’t understand Free Speech. That harassing and attacking others incessantly is the most effective means of denying others their rights to Free Speech.

Maybe there’s a lesson to be learned here

Lulz is when someone becomes emotionally invested in words random people post on the internet.

If only people realized this over the past five years while one of their team members racked up over 50,000 posts, the majority of which were nothing but personal attacks.

It’s of the most peculiar coincidence that NOW it has become important
Now that the leader of the free world has set such an uncivil tone, rife with personal attacks
Now that all legit criticism is discarded as FakeNews
Now, all honest criticism must be censored!

Just a remarkable coincidence, the timing of these things.

Surprising that a user that complains that there isn't enough quality threads created here wants to limit members ability to create threads, and this same user who wants better quality threads, but only starts maybe one thread a month for discussion. Something doesn't add up, except the suppression of speech that's not from a preferred political leaning.

If only one thread a day was allowed per user, this place would be a ghost town. Also limiting posters to one thread a day and 5 comments a day is a bit "Stalin-esque", don't you think?
